Not questioning his heart and form in 2016, he was great in that year. This year has definitely seen a massive decline but not just from him I will admit.
It all comes back to how much we truly lost when Ennis and Barba left.

He definitely looks defeated at times when on the field, not sure if there is a lot of baggage off the field but hopefully he is fit enough to play finals because we will need his experience.

He has played finals every year since debut which is a great.

Bird has been just as underwhelming as Holmes. His output in no reflects the hype he gets. Loots adds more the the team for a lot less cost.

GP T MIN AR ARM LB TA OL TK MT TB E
Loots 22 7 1760 270 2758 11 6 3 236 28 44 23
Bird 16 2 1267 217 1848 4 7 17 198 52 66 26

Bird has stronger stats in try assists, offloads and tackle breaks.
Loots is stronger in tries, line breaks, much lower missed tackle rate and error rate.

For Birds defence a missed tackle rate of 26% is poor. 2 tries for the season from a supposed attacking weapon.

Yeah the stats dont lie. He has been so shit this year. Broncos must be thinking they jumped the gun.

As someone who has jumped heavily on the anti-Holmes bandwagon, which one could argue was started by someone who had a bit of an agenda against the kid, you shouldn't really be one to talk.
Settle petal.

Maybe Flanno doesn't want him there... A few weeks ago in a presser, when Bird first got hurt, I got the impression Flanno didn't want him there. Didn't say it as such, just reading the way he responded when questioned about Jack playing. Flange was not happy with him.

For a young guy that had such a great debut season, he has really underwhelmed this year. Has the talent, but I'd say the head isn't right, plus opposing players know he's a threat now, and give him the attention that warrants.

Anyway, he signed with the drongos, so he's dead to me :)

Said it a few weeks back. He was very likely to be dropped and it wouldn't surprise me if he is right now.

Whilst people can point to last years finals series and say he steps up in big games, that's a different time. That's when Bird wanted to be at Cronulla, wanted to win like they all did. There was talk the motivation isn't there this year to win, if its going to be missing from anyone its the guy who has signed elsewhere, already has a premiership and his future is not at Cronulla.

What motivation does Bird have to come in this finals series and put his body on the line for Cronulla?

Aren't you the same one who suggests Maloney will play shit next year because he doesn't want to be at Cronulla but its wrong to suggest Jack Bird doesn't care because he already has his big contract elsewhere?

Anyone who is committed to Cronulla and wants to keep winning, create a dynasty or a winning culture is playing for Cronulla. Sure, they might take the money and run in the future but whilst their future is here, they want to do well.

A player who has already taken the money and it makes no difference what happens now has a different attitude no doubt. Especially when he can rest up and ensure he is fit and firing for Day 1 of pre season at the new club...

Apparently should be right for this weekend.

As much as his effort & performance is dubious, we do need him to add a bit of grunt in the backs.
