James is hitting good form, right when we need a forward leader.

Matulino putting a hit on JWH.

Sao getting some good shots on Napa + Jarrod.

We haven't had a Prop that others fear since Packer.

Things are looking very positive, Ideally the ISP boys aren't needed this year (unlikely).....hopefully the ISP boys pick up their defence....give Kearney some realistic depth options.

Its that f**kknuckle Halligan that calls him Gav-ay, sometimes a few seconds after the other commentator has correctly called him Gav-ett....

I think he's one of those lucky guys who has turned the adversity he faced in his younger years into strength and it fuels him today.

Only way is up now..

I'm interested in his rep status. Is it Kangaroos, Blues, Kiwis or Samoa?

Yeah its interesting isn't it? I thought maybe he has already played for Samoa?

Gavet and Matulino wouldn't be a bad starting front row for the Kiwis in the World Cup now that Bromwich has screwed up.

Good.

I've always been a fan of James's.

I'm happy for him.

He came to the Warriors with a brief to earn a chance on minimum wage.

At first he seemed an improbable chance of making it ( not so much about ability, more about how bigger hurdles he had to overcome to earn the trust of the club).

We've seen many fade away and not make it back.

James has humbled himself, done all that work with his family helping the poor...delivering food....while earning very little money.

James is an ideal role model....someone who has been to the dark places.

I hope the club and James end up using his life experience to help some of the young blokes here.

Stirring the pot here (controversy for controversies sake) it strikes me that James has done it harder than Foran.

Foran has been petted by the Warriors by comparison ( his 'recovery' package would have been at four or five times $$$ of James).

How much of that is by virtue of Foran and Gavets relative profiles ? a lot I would wager.

As far as star pulling power, and relative career success I get it.

As far as KF being a one time screw up versus James having a history of repeat problems I get it.

But where I have question marks is that James is one of our own, kieran is not.

While Kieran was answering phones at the Warriors, James was shelving out of his own pocket to help the poor.

While KF is looking to leave the side.....being chased hard by management.....all contracts frozen tilk KF knows wot he is doing...the Warriors hold off on offering James a deal.

You might see no problem with how this has played out.....personally I'm keeping an open mind.

I suspect the Warriors low balled James based on his past ( fair enough) and somewhat banked on his willingness to stay.

Versus the way they were prepared to move heaven and earth for their other fallen angel.

Deep down.....way deep down....something in my Gut says the Warriors need to milk the Gavet Story and move on from the Foran social story.

I would urge their PR Dept to realise the discovery of a beastly Prop.....the Diamond in the rough....is the real story of 2017.

*Kieran Foran is my favorite player in the world.

Bloody awesome post sup42. Not everyone might agree with everything youve said but you've raised some good and interesting discussion points.

James is still doing the volunteer stuff with his whanau around West Auckland with homeless and dislocated youth when he can which is great in Kelston Avondale and New Lynn mostly. The locals actually know him but many of them don't even realise he's a Warrior which probably works in his favour - for now at least! He goes to youth camps in Willow Park and Totara Springs where ironically he is more well known. This sort of stuff keeps him grounded.

There's a lot of talk about the surprise in Gavet's form rise this year, but I had no problem with him last year either. He didn't set the world apart but he made do with what limited time he got and, more importantly, looked like he genuinely gave a crap.

If he got as much field time as The Gubbster we would have seen more, this is a classic case of empowerment by getting him off the bench and giving him a prop leadership role.

Anyway, good for him and looking forward to him going strong all the way through 2017

It's not often I feel like I want to personally send a message to a player to say chur bro, as a fan I really love what you're doing...but I feel that way with James. Granted it's early days for his form this year but I've read all about the great off-field stuff he does, I've heard how he's turned his life around, I follow him on insta and he seems like a ripping bloke and I've absolutely loved his on-field stuff this year when we sorely needed.

So yeah, chur bro.

I want to like Gavet, and I do.

I want to think that this surge in good form will lead to him consistently being a top prop in the future. I'm not there yet.

Have you seen him live, Meth? He's got real physical presence, the opposition know he's there. A wary eye (or two) on him creates space for others to fill.

What exactly do you think he's lacking?
