"Roberts' legal counsel, Nick Ghabar, argued that Roberts wasn't even kicking Simpkins."

The Broncos shell out big bucks for a lawyer, and this ^^^was the best he could come up with?

It's amazing he's gone from underrated player everyone wanted in the new origin team to persona non grata ever since he joined the donks

Well of course he's quick, that's by far his biggest asset.

No need to be stupid all the time, like your namesake.

Haha yep the public(the ones without two heads anyway) aren't going to do a Brisbane player any favours, they are already hated as soon as they put that ugly jersey on anyway.

How the f**k did the Broncos think they'd get a player off when he's clearly kicked another player in the back, even allowing for the weird functioning of the NRL judiciary?

Because whether they contested it or not, he was only ever going to get 1 week.

As I postulated in the Match Review Panel thread, the NRL charged him with contrary conduct as opposed to kicking as it is a harder charge to disprove. Based on how the Sydney Morning Herald reported the hearing, had Roberts been charged with kicking, the argument used by the Broncos may well have gotten him off. However as it was a contrary conduct charge, their reasoning floundered as it did not address it being contrary conduct, which both the NRL prosecutor and the NRL Judiciary Chairman pointed out. That was why they found him guilty so quickly.

As in the legal world, this is why sometime offenders get charged with a "lesser" crime, as the prosecutor thinks they have a better chance at conviction than if they go for the top charge.
