As I postulated in the Match Review Panel thread, the NRL charged him with contrary conduct as opposed to kicking as it is a harder charge to disprove. Based on how the Sydney Morning Herald reported the hearing, had Roberts been charged with kicking, the argument used by the Broncos may well have gotten him off. However as it was a contrary conduct charge, their reasoning floundered as it did not address it being contrary conduct, which both the NRL prosecutor and the NRL Judiciary Chairman pointed out. That was why they found him guilty so quickly.

As in the legal world, this is why sometime offenders get charged with a "lesser" crime, as the prosecutor thinks they have a better chance at conviction than if they go for the top charge.
I understand plea bargaining. I'd have thought it would have been fairly easy to nail him for kicking the guy.

The irony of a panthers fan talking about ugly jerseys

Penrith have had some good looking jerseys to go with our stinkers over the years. Show me one good Broncos jersey, they are all stinkers. Maroon, yellow and white, you just cant make that combination look good. Plus the Panthers are innovators, we are the first club to wear a different jersey to every home game in one season. Think about all that extra revenue no wonder we could afford to build the academy.

The current Penrith home and away jerseys would be best in their history - they look quite good.
I think the worst are the Wests, Cowboys, Manly and Melbourne away jerseys.

2016 Cowboys away?
Yes it's AWFUL but some people like this jersey better than the home, it offends me.

That shade of grey shouldn't be worn by anyone!

Mark Geyer has actually slammed the NRL for clubs constantly changing the jersey on the Roast a couple years back. He suggests its unfair to the fans constantly changing the jersey who pay good money to buy a jersey that are the teams colours.

What Penrith's colours are they Black, Brown, White, Pink, Teal. Make up your mind.

He also said the AFL don't seem to have as many jerseys and don't change the colours constantly like clubs in the NRL do.

^The ESL is worse. Some of their alternate jerseys are complete different colours a la Brisbane's aquamarine atrocity.

well you don't have to keep buying them all do ya? I reckon having the ugly ones are great - its a point of difference and you can wear it semi-ironically. If I was a broncos fan, i'd definitely get that one or the jockey diamonds. I'd also love the pizza vomit socceroos guernsey but its a rarity.

Boggles the mind the panthers colours. The Strawberry oak one is pretty good.

EDIT - anyway, we should all be in the jersey thread

I am unable to post the twitter link, however.

James Roberts is reportedly undergoing "treatment" in a facility in Thailand.

The club too tight to pay for an Aus rehab place lol.
Could be the club didn't want his issues to become public knowledge. This means they'd have to answer some serious questions. So end of year, have your mad Monday, then we'll quietly send you off to rehab O/S, sssshhhhh.

Or Greentued made it part of the deal to sweep it all under the carpet.
