For mine it is for $$

He is 28-29.

How many years of Rugby, NRL does he have? 3-4 years until injuries catch up to him.

He is not stupid money wise.

He tried the NFL becuase it was his dream but if he had suceeded the $$$ would be more than he'd ever imagined.

He will try rugby and Olympic success will get him more sponsorship money.

Then he will try and attract the Jap or French rugby $$.

Parra will be plan Z if all else fails

The Fiji rugby thing is obviously only a 3 month gig, will be interesting to see what his next move is...

In life there are winners and losers at anything you do. I'm sure at one point many of us would have loved to play NRL, now you simply watch it for entertainment. Should someone who played a higher level of Rugby League than you for a few months and got sick of it and went to do something else stand aside to make room for your inferior skills? NFL is a competitive sport not a love-in...

The people in your life probably look out for you, there is no need to be greedy. Not everyone is Mother Theresa. Your view on the world is what you make of it and it is rather simplistic to blame it on someone having aspirations.

We see things differently and nothing wrong with that. But its a team sport. Would you as part of a team that have worked hard together want a guy to come in for 6 weeks to help you win and see your mate miss out? I will tell you one thing in team sports
If i was building a culture and squad id chose guys with heart and who look out for their team mates over pure skill. And 9/10 those teams are the one's who win titles and are competetive every year.

Hayne turns 29 feb next year.
29 - 30 - 31 - 32 - 33 He could do 5 more years in league. His body has been rested for the last 18mths so would of recovered a lot from slight injuries.

The question for Eels is how good is this Bevan French? And if Hayne comes what room do we have for Semi when time to upgrade. And what type of forwards pack. Norman/Foran are taking up a fair bit of coin.

You forgot our friend Jennings

3, 6, 7

will be taking our cap money

1 if we get Hayne
Semi will need to take MJ spot when he becomes off contract, though there would be a 1 year gap

Go back to league win a comp another Daily M medal become a legend and he has a meal ticket for life. Yeah might loose some money short term but long term he has a career for life.

If he goes to union yeah he might make more money in the short term but in the long term he wouldn't have half the career if he had returned to league.

Here's another question... Is he even suited to fullback anymore? He's been training/conditioning to be a running back for 2 years now, his body has changed, maybe he's not suited for that position anymore, maybe he'd be more suited as a centre, even possible a lock?

Probably not, but who knows?

You're kidding right?

Do you know what Brett Kenny and Ray Price and Steve Ella and Eric Grothe our last premiership winners are doing?

Unless he becomes a media man, which I doubt, as he doesnt speak well, NRL spits you out and see you later.

Say he comes back to NRL for $1.2M gets a bad injury like Watmough, how much would he have.

He goes to Jap rugby and makes 3 or 4 times that and the same thing happens.

Where will he be better off?

As I said, the NRL does not look after you post your career unless you get into the media.

Former NRL and NFL player Jarryd Hayne will travel to London tomorrow to join the Vodafone Fiji 7s team.

The NFL has announced that his contract has ended with the San Francisco 49ers.

Vodafone Fiji 7s Coach Ben Ryan is looking to further his options before naming his squad for the final round at Twickenham and also for the Olympic Games in August.

World Rugby reports that Ryan says he has been having a few conversations with Hayne where he expressed his interest to try out for the Fiji 7s team.

He adds that are no promises that Hayne will make the final 12 but he will see how things go.

Ryan says it is a huge challenge for Hayne but if he gets into the squad it is only going to be on form.

A squad of 24 will assemble next month for Fiji's training camp before the final 12 is announced.

Comparing modern players to those in the 80's. Nah Hayne would have multiple properties that he could sell off at any point to get more money. He was in the top 5 for NFL jersey sales and top 50 for overall merch sales. On top of this all of the money he's accrued throughout his NRL career.

Somehow I don't think Hayne will be driving a bus on the Gold Coast after his career.

Of course not but. My point is that the NRL does not look after you if you are retired. The money grab is now. Why not play for 3-4 times more than what he can get in the NRL?

If he was 24-25, he could wait but he is 28-29.

According to this, he sold his St Peter's place and should now have 3 other properties

He purchased an investment terrace in Darlinghurst costing $1.5 million and spent $1.1 million in Paddington, both in 2013.

There was also a Umina home purchase for his mother.

Is that enough?

I reckon I know what he'll do post-sports, and if he doesn't I'd be willing to steer him in that direction for a cut
