Mundine's probably right. He is an absolutely amazing athlete. A guy who was a very good five-eight in the NRL. Not a superstar, but not far off being an elite player. Then switches to boxing and does very well in that, too - despite not having an amateur career as a corner-stone. An amazing effort. If he hadn't continually shot his mouth off, e would be revered in this country as a superstar and supreme athlete - probably better than Hayne because, as he says, his was most likely the harder path. I like Anthony Mundine, but he hasn't done himself any favours with the Australian public Then again, the Australian public particularly hates it when an aboriginal gets too big for their boots. We like our indigenous sports stars to be humble, don't we?
If Mundine was a pasty white dude i would still hate the merkin.

Yep, that's about it. He annoys me, but I don't hate him.

I've had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times(was a while ago now), away from the glare. Softly spoken, polite young bloke who actually went out of his way to have a chat, and listened to what the other bloke was saying. He should be on WWF.

He lost me after his 9/11 comments on the Footy Show.

1st class dickhead.

Imagine if he was a good fighter AND a nice guy. He'd be twice as famous and respected. Prolly would have been Australian of the Year and named living legend.

Instead people roll their eyes at the mention of his name.

What a tosser.

Agreed, the guy was a very good footy player and done well at Boxing albeit hand picked opponents but he goes out of his way to upset people just to make a name for himself.

I guess it's lucky that he didn't go on about the Jews killing Jesus. That'd make him a total tool.

Mundines dream was the yanks would be talking about him, unfortunately for him they are doing that about Hayne now and he's done it in such a short time frame.

hayne was a far bettern league player then what Mundine ever was, i feel dirty just mentioning both in the same sentence.

As for Hayne in the NFL, he has gone into a very complex game with litterally 1000's competing (if not millions) competing for where he is now. To even be getting playing time imo shits all over some 70kg guy part time plumbers that mundine fought.

Hayne is the best athlete ever for Aus, achieved far more already then what Mundine ever did, and the fact the american public respect him and are all over him is attributed to this. The US don't even know who Mundine is:lol:

if Hayne stayed in league, he wouldve been an immortal or debates would reign that he should. He is the best parra player of all time, and greatest fullback NSW has ever had.

Go and ask people in the street who Mundine fought, i bet they would be scratching there heads to name one:lol:

Now go and ask people who hayne plays for in the NFL. A sign of respect for what he has accomplished:lol:

Mundine doesn't get the respect because well, i dont think he is entitled to it. I don't think what he accomplished was that big of a deal. There i said it, always thought it. He may have beaten what was in front of him, but lets not kid ourselves, 99% of these guys looked like they just came out of Rooty Hill RSL:lol:

Hayne tweeted a dumb Hillsong position about an event in a book that may never have even taken place, then quickly retracted and apologized.

He did not state it and re-state it in a presser and give a f**k about people's feelings.

Not comparing apples with apples.

Kinda hope they rest Hayne in the next game. I feel it's going to be brutal up against the mighty Packers, especially if Kap keeps running out of the pocket he's going to be demolished by Matthews.

Hayne not good enough for kick returns.

JARRYD Hayne appears to have secured the San Francisco 49ers’ punt return job, but the NFL team is reluctant to also give him the kick return role.

Local media and 49ers fans have been calling for the Australian rugby league convert to take on both return jobs after his sensational pre-season form and 37-yard punt return against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
The 49ers’ kick returner, rookie DeAndrew White, has had several shaky games, including fumbling the ball against the Cardinals. This weekend the 49ers, after two large consecutive losses, host the undefeated Green Bay Packers led by the 2014 MVP, quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
“Not to say Jarryd can’t do it, but that’s not his strong suit,” 49ers special teams co-ordinator Thomas McGaughey told reporters on Wednesday (US time).
“His strong suit is punt return and that’s what we are going to continue to make him flourish in.”
The call from McGaughey is at odds with opinions of 49ers beat writers, and also Niners Hall of Famer, three-time Super Bowl winner and four-time Pro Bowler Roger Craig, who are adamant the Australian should get a shot at kickoffs and is a better option than White.

McGaughey said the two return jobs require different skill sets. A punt return is made after the opposition’s punter catches a ball from a long snap and quickly boots it down field to gain field position.
A kick return comes when the opponent’s kicker kicks the ball from a tee placed on the ground at the start of the game or after a touchdown.
The 49ers say Hayne’s talent comes when he has space to move, which is more likely when fielding a punt.
“If you look at the space in a punt return, it’s a lot more as opposed to the space in a kick-off return,” McGaughey said.
“It can get real tight in a hurry in kick-off returns.
“That’s still something he’s still trying to get a feel for. I think his strength is punt return and that’s what we are going to do.”

Another returner, Bruce Ellington, has been out with an ankle injury the past two games and McGaughey said he was not sure if he’d be fit to play the Packers.
Ellington could slot into White’s kick return role if healthy. Unlike recent press conferences where 49ers coaches focused on Hayne being a rookie and having a lot to learn about the NFL, McGaughey was full of praise for the former NSW fullback in his role as punt returner.
Hayne’s 37-yard return against the Cardinals set up the 49ers only touchdown and was one of the few positives in the 47-7 thrashing.

McGaughey said the only time he has seen Hayne drop a ball - in training or game situations - since he arrived in San Francisco in April came in their season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
“Jarryd is out best punt catcher,” McGaughey said.
“He fields the ball naturally. I mean, you saw the one he caught over his shoulder in the pre-season game.
“The first ball he put on the ground was the one he did in the game. Since he’s been here I hadn’t seen him drop one in practice.”
