Even if this is the end then it's still a pretty remarkable achievement.

Yep considering most said he wouldn't get signed let alone make a roster within 12 months. Hayne achieved his dream, simple as that.

The coach f**ked up by putting him on the roster in the first place and now in desperation they have released him to save jobs. That's my take on it.

They've 'waived' him to bring a more experienced (in terms of playing American Football) and capable RB into the squad now that Hyde is out for a few weeks (and Bush could break at any time). Hayne is in the same situation he'd have been in if they'd left him in the practice squad at the start of the season.

And you are right, I just still believe the coach is desperate to keep his job because i would imagine it is on the line considering how their season has gone to date.

I guess the other thing to consider is that maybe Hayne regressed a little from the progression he was making? Maybe his attitude changed? It's all possible.

Probably more that it isn't preseason going against mostly backups anymore.

Just saying that with Hyde injured and Bush a perpetual injury worry, they needed RB#3 to be a guy that they'd be comfortable being on the field for 15 or so plays if necessary. Hayne is not ready for that, and nor should we expect him to be.

Back with the 49ers practice squad once he clears waivers. The other teams have 24-hours (might be 48 hours at this time of year) to claim him, and place him on their 53-man roster, otherwise he can stay where he is.

From what I watched of Gaskins in the pre-season he was pretty ordinary. If Bush get's injured what do they do then? They're all over the place the 49ers...

Agreed, probably should have been on the practice squad to begin with. The 49ers may have thought he wouldn't clear waivers if he didn't make the roster originally and this was better for them. In that respect it has worked out well for them if they always wanted him on the PS.
