God the media are a bunch of f**kwits. Do they want the coaching staff to make a song and dance about a practice squad player? They answered the questions, what kind of enthusiasm were they actually after?

He does need to learn the game, why is that the negative the media make it out to be? Are they butt hurt that all the sensationalism they applied to the Hayne name backfired on them when he was waived?

While I do agree with you here...I also think he should be playing.

Or at least have someone other than Ellington returning the punts. This Niners management is just awful.

You've nailed it mate in one.
Our media is soooooo embarrassing.

This is one thing I know we agree on 👍

Don't get me wrong they don't seem to be consistent considering Ellington (who has played football all his life) has had fumbling issues but as their jobs are on the line I can see why they won't play him.

My main gripe was with the article and the interpretation of the coaches comments. They seem to want the coaches to treat Hayne like he is the number 1 RB on the team as opposed to him being a practice squad member who is also an absolute rookie to the game.

Cam Iman has blasted the 49ers. Says they're nuts if he doesn't get a run in the last 3 games. Good read.

Reading the views on Twitter, seems Hayne is the only good thing going for the club at the moment and the coaches are copping it. Hayne may have paid the price for over achieving in the pre season.
And under delivering during the real season... six games with too many fumbles on the kick returns (his main speciality), and a lack of defensive nous in the offensive line when at RB (his only other option).

Having said that, I agree they should trhow him into the final 3 games, especially if their squad has injury problems in these positions. 49ers have nothing to lose, and it's a chance for them (and Hayne) to assess if he has learnt anything back on the practice squad.

Yeah I'm not downplaying his errors. I think the PS was best for him to leanr the game. I mean Gabbert got sacked 9 times last week so it's not as if Jarryd is the only one with that problem. 3 games, nothing to lose, may as well give the fans something to cheer for, they want to see him out there.

They should be putting him out there because right now they should be tanking to get a higher draft pick next year.
Throwing in a rookie who the public wants to be playing is the perfect way to do that without looking like you are tanking on purpose.

Unless he wins them some games.

He should at least be given another shot.we have something like 40 million cap space next year, there should be a fair amount of recruiting in the offseason

Reading between the lines these quotes suggest that perhaps Jarryd tried to pull his "I only want to play fullback" trick, only this time it backfired?

49ers special teams co-ordinator Thomas McGaughey on Hayne:
"When you just kind of come in and say, ‘OK, I’m a punt returner or I just play running back, you don’t really know all the nuances of the game."

"
You can’t throw in 18 years worth of situations in six months. It takes 21 years to be 21 years old. That’s just the reality of it. (Hayne) needs to find his way to speed the process up."

49ers coach Jim Tomsula on Hayne:
"We see Jarryd in practice and he’s practicing very hard."

Either that our Hayne's attitude wasn't matched by his real season performances, and it wasn't worth feeding the ego/hype by keeping (or returning) him in the 53?

Barty,

Why do you dislike Jarryd so much dude? He was a phenomenal player for us yet you bring him down at every opportunity, why?

And I'm not bringing him down, I'm just providing his current coaches' quotes about his performance. That can't be counted as "bringing him down"?

Past history Jake, Hayne's moved on - left us early in fact - to play another code.

But at least he's "practicing very hard". Can you imagine if a NRL coach gave that quote about a player he'd dumped to reserve grade?.
