I'm packing my bags and getting a flight down to Sydney to sort these merkins out tomorrow. You go round the legs and I'll come over the top with a swinging arm. Being from QLD the judiciary will probably go easy on me.

i always knew u had my back merkin

Probably the most talented but he needed to keep playing to stamp his position at the top.

I think Hindy is still ahead of him in the modern era.

Yeah I agree, if he stayed probably would have been. Probably could also have been close to one of the greatest league players of all time.

From the era I have seen, Sterling / Hindy in front and on par with Kenny.

Hindmarsh was a great example of how far desire, effort, endurance and a modicum of talent can get you. Hayne was example of how far shedloads of talent alone can take you.

That's probably a fairly simplistic view. No doubt you need the qualities of both those sorts of players to be successful as a team... One thing I'm certain of is that Jarryd's highlight reel makes for better viewing than about any other player I've ever seen (Benji Marshall's '05 season was up there and a handful of times since but he wasn't as magic for as long as Hayne). Maybe that's blue and gold bias, but he deadset had it all. Lockyer might have had the playmaking ability at fullback (and five-eighth when he switched there) that Hayne had, but Locky never had the power to bust the defensive line like Hayne did, not the evasiveness and out and out speed Hayne had. Ditto Re speed when you think about Johns. Slater might be considered the better 'fullback' strictly speaking, but he never kicked a 40/20 in his life or came up with as many line break assists as Hayne... Thurston is probably as close as you get to getting the mix between Hayne's talent and Hindmarsh's desire and heart just right.

I could go on and on... Essentially though I think Hayne was just about the most talented all round league player I've seen. Even blokes who support other teams and who spent the last 5 years on forums bad-mouthing him incessantly want him back in our game... That says it all

Oddly enough, I don't want him to come back to the NRL.

For a couple of reasons. Firstly, I would like to see him succeed in the NFL, I always enjoy watching Aussies do well in the states, especially as it tends to drive the Yanks mad. Secondly, if Jarryd was to return to the NRL, a comp he has gone on record saying that it does nothing for him anymore, all we can expect to see is Jarryd phoning it in for the pay cheque, no one wants to see that.

Youve got to wonder when the novalty is gonna wear off for him.

He must just be enjoying hanging out with egotistical high paid mofos

I don't think Hayne's success was on talent and natural physical attributes alone, although being 188cm 105kgs and running 100metres in 11 seconds certainly helps. When coming into the first grade team Hayne knew what it took to get his body functioning in the best way possible, he would work on his core so that he had that balance and strength that would get him to the top. We saw him in regular season games and most notably in Origin where he would have one of the staff kick the ball directly at him from 10 metres away so that he had his eye in for the match.

I think the reason that this goes unrecognised, and people say that he isn't a footballer/hard-worker and more of an athlete because when on the field Hayne made it look easy. He could chip and chase for himself, he could throw a pin point cut-out to the winger, he had a long kicking game, heck I saw him practicing goal-kicking at Brookvale one day and he was hitting them from close to the sideline and the reason he didn't kick that day was because he had a slight problem with his hamstring. What other player in the highest grade competition in sport could just burn a player playing the same position with a slight turn in their run? I don't think you can make it to the top purely because of your athletic ability or "natural" ability, Hayne was a mixture of genetic prowess, footballing ability and had a desire to get to the top.

God the media are a bunch of f**kwits. Do they want the coaching staff to make a song and dance about a practice squad player? They answered the questions, what kind of enthusiasm were they actually after?

He does need to learn the game, why is that the negative the media make it out to be? Are they butt hurt that all the sensationalism they applied to the Hayne name backfired on them when he was waived?
