Jarryd Hayne, is he serious?

I've come into this topic late and haven't searched all the threads, but can someone show me where or tell me who from AFL has actually mentioned they are chasing Hayne?

It is mainly the pro-AFL media who are spewing out these stories about Hayne and GWS. It wouldn't surprise me if these journalists/media outlets have been paid by the AFL to write these stories as marketing/publicity stunts and to keep the attention on this new team.

I think some people on here are over reacting.... IMO he will stay. But if it were me and someone offered me triple what I was earning then I would not think twice, I would go. And nobody on here would do any differently if it were your jobs and you had a guaranteed income.

Loyalty is a good thing but everyone has a price.

Hayne has the potential to earn millions in rugby league and there is no doubt he would easily be able to look after his family by staying in this sport, a career that could easily span 20-30 years after his playing days are over. A rugby league career could very well be a more lucrative long term option for him. It is not all about the here and now. You have to think about the future. If he gives up on rugby league that could very well be the worse financial decision he could make.

i agree, if i was offerd triple i would go as well.

the problem is that he is saying one thing, then another and i think this is pi**ing everyone off, me included.

i think he should stop jerking the club around. he should either sign or be a professional and advise the club he is off to play afl.

if he wants to go to afl, good luck to him.

the money the club was going to offer him could be used towards buying or keeping players.

Tell that to Adam Ritson, Paul Mares and a few others.

In a game so physical, you always want to pocket the money first.

So for your career, a company comes and offers you a mega-package but to do something that is similar but not what you have been doing all this time.

Rumours spread at the office. Your boss comes to you and says "Well are the rumours true?"

Then you colleagues keep pestering you " Are you leaving? When?"

How would you respond?

To be honest I think most people on this board would jump at the money and run to the afl. Sports people have a finite period to make money and if I was offered $1.5 million a year you'd be mad not to consider it.

Really in general who's going to be upset, parra fans and thats about it, but were people upset when tahu left yes and now they're glad his back, I think people will be more upset if we lost morts or mateo becuase of the $$ tahu is taking up

If jarryd goes though i'd be making a call to thurston and I still say we have a good team capable of winning the comp

And what about the people who almost forgave Judas when there were talks that he would be back here as our 6 when he was finishing up with St Helens.

There is a risk in all decisions and a LOT of people who make decisions based solely on money regret those decisions. Hayne has a very good thing going in League. He has never to my knowledge played a game of AFL and if he fails in AFL, which is much more likely than not, there is a posibility he may lose much more than he gains.

Jake, those players are still under contract for next season,. give the club a chance to work through a few things, all clubs have the same issues.

I think we need to chill, look at it in this way, that if they leave for whatever reason, that frees up funds to replace them, sometimes hard to swallow , but reality.

I think we have to trust Anderson and Osborne to run the club properly, and make good decisions, at the end of the day I follow the club, and am getting a bit tired of these threads and the rumours and fear....

Despite reports of a five-year offer worth $7.5 million, the AFL's Team GWS say they aren't pursuing Parramatta's rugby league superstar Jarryd Hayne.
Hayne is contracted to Parramatta for the 2010 season and the Eels are keen to lock in a new four-year deal.

But the NRL has been buzzing with talk that Hayne could join the Kevin Sheedy-coached Team GWS in 2012, following in the footsteps of ex-Brisbane Bronco Karmichael Hunt who will play for Gold Coast in their AFL debut season in 2011.

In fact Hayne, who was named rugby league's international player of the year at a gala dinner in the English city of Leeds earlier this month, is so low on the AFL's "hit-list" that the spelling of his name is still open to debate.

"Team GWS wishes to clarify that, contrary to a number of recent media reports, it has not made any offer to Jarred (sic) Hayne," Team GWS said.

"Team GWS remains committed to providing opportunities for youth in Greater Western Sydney to represent their team in the AFL National Competition from 2012.

I left my last job for triple the money, it was an extremely easy decision to make!

If the 1.5 Million offer is for real who could blame Jarryd? The fact that he says he will make a decision in the new year may mean he is actually torn and believe it or not i am sure he could care less about what the fans think!

Of course the Eels fans want him to stay, his team mates probably do too but money talks and if you are going to get paid 1.5 million a year, damn that would be hard to turn down!

If he does turn it down then it tells you alot about him, if he takes it no-one can be angry that he chose the money, dissapointed for sure though.

I hope he stays but if he doesn't, i wish him well and hope he succeeds in the AFL.
