Jarryd Hayne, is he serious?

Honestly Hayne/Beavis and the AFL couldn't be this stupid.

If Hayne signed with the AFL he would go from one of the most popular and supported footballers in western Sydney to THE most hated footballer in Australia. Sure he may have more money BUT he would lose oh so much more.

And if the AFL pay $1.5m a year to a rugby league who has never played the game imagine how much money an AFL player who has played the game his whole life would command. There would be an outcry amongst AFL players if this happened.

Not only that but the AFL would stand NO chance of gaining any sort of foothold in western Sydney. They would have seriously pissed off a LOT of potential fans, the type of fans they are targeting with this move. I mean the only reason they would sign Hayne would be to entice rugby league followers into their fold BUT it would in fact do the exact opposite. I for one would hate the AFL more than I do now and I wouldn't be the only one.

Not sure if this is all aimed at fans who hate AFL already. It seems it is more aimed at those fans who can follow more than one game at once.

I didn't always hate AFL but their actions in the last few years have led to my hatred of that sport, and I can assure you there are more and more people like me and I can further assure you if Hayne signed with the AFL for the reported $1.5m a yr there would be a hella lot more people like me.

It's understood the AFL's new Greater Western Sydney franchise is willing to offer Hayne $1.5 million a year to switch.

so they haven't offered him jack sh*t at this stage

why the hysteria ?

my thoughts exactly

he said he wanted a break and thats what he is doing

The problem is the pro-AFL media keep harping on Hayne's 'interest' in going to the AFL so that fuels peoples insecurities ... even though Hayne's interest is really a product of the pro-AFL media in trying to create publicity for the new team.

I really don't think either party would be that stupid cause it honestly would cause more harm than good for both parties.

if what you say is true then what is the point in getting him to sign one?
Letters of intent are basically the catalyst to write the contract. Contracts are massive legal documents. You don't just write one up and get it signed in a couple of hours. Hayne and Parra negotiate remuneration and length of contract and put forward some of the intended clauses to be included. Hayne then signs the letter saying he will be paid this much between these dates in accordance with the agreed upon clauses, subject to the contract. It's like a preapproval from the bank for a mortgage. The letter of intent is actually legally binding but is easily got around because it's usually only a couple of paragraphs long

in England he said when he returned that he would be signing with Parramatta when questioned about going to AFL. no mention of a holiday

now he has returned he has backtracked and is making no such commitment and has given no indication that he would not sign with AFL

The sky is falling.....

He said he would sign when he returned...... there was no other time limit placed on it. He, like Hindmarsh, Inu and Moimoi won't have to be back at the club before January for training. At this stage there hasn't even been an offer from GWS.

Paranoia, paranoia.....

GWS have not denied there is no offer

AFL like to keep these things quiet like they did with Hunt

can you explain his sudden change in attitude?

it's not paranoia. it's looking at the two different Hayne's. the one in England who flat out denied he would go to AFL and the new Hayne that suddenly will not rule out switching

Probably tired of the media speculation.......and a long season. First chance he has had to relax since January.

my issue is with him jerking us around, we don't need it and it makes us look bad.

Here here. Making the club look like a big joke. So much for loyalty. The club should show some balls and kick his arse to the curb today. That's the last thing he would expect . He's too big a superstar for this club.

I think some people on here are over reacting.... IMO he will stay. But if it were me and someone offered me triple what I was earning then I would not think twice, I would go. And nobody on here would do any differently if it were your jobs and you had a guaranteed income.

Loyalty is a good thing but everyone has a price.
