Didn't she go to the NRL integrity unit first to report it? That's what I find puzzling. If you think a crime has been committed against your person, go to the police not the NRL integrity unit... If I was a cynic, I'd be thinking maybe that was the play of someone looking for a few $$'s from a sporting governing body to keep quiet about a high profile player of theirs.... Thankfully though I'm not cynical at all and am keen to see justice take its course....
Anyone who thinks in this day and age that the NRL would pay someone to cover up a sexual assault is dumber than I gave you credit for.

There is absolutely no way in hell that wouldn't come out eventually, and it would spell massive trouble for the NRL. The press shit storm they would cop for doing that is a hundred times worse than what they would cop letting the player take the fall alone.

I know it's a hobby of some members of this forum to fantasize about the NRL being involved in one conspiracy or another from time to time, but there is no way they cover up a sexual assault in 2018.

Where did he say that he thinks the NRL would do that?

Whoa whoa whoa...

I was not suggesting the NRL would pay to cover it up... I was intimating that there might be folk out there who think they might in order to keep something like an alleged assault quiet. And that shit happens all the time, 2 and 3 time losers think they can go straight to the honeypot and get some sugar quickly rather than follow due judicial process which can take years. I thought it was obvious where I was apportioning suspicion and doubt...

“Jarryd Hayne may have played his last game in the NRL after St George Illawarra’s interest in the free agent cooled significantly in recent days.

St George Illawarra’s pursuit of Hayne stalled well before revelations he was under investigation by the NSW Sex Crimes Squad following an alleged incident on grand final night. No charges have been laid.

The Dragons were once considered a frontrunner to entice Hayne to the club, but the parties have been unable to find a common ground in negotiations. The Saturday Telegraph has learnt the 30-year-old Hayne has been seeking a two year deal worth $1.4 million. However, the Dragons are not prepared to offer Hayne more than $500,000 for season 2019. It is also understood the contract had significant behavioural clauses centred around training attendance which is said to have left Hayne perturbed.

St George Illawarra have not completely ruled out making a late play for Hayne but the latest unsubstantiated allegations will not sit well with the club. Hayne now faces the very real prospect of being squeezed out of the NRL all together.

With most clubs back at pre-season training, the two-time Dally M medallist may be forced to look overseas to continue his sporting career. He had held out hopes of returning to the Eels with his junior club keen on extending Hayne’s deal but they have been unable to shed the players needed to accommodate Hayne’s salary.

Hayne flirted with rugby before rejoining the NRL midway through 2016 at the Titans. At least one Super Rugby club from New Zealand had toyed with handing Hayne a lifeline. The Dragons yesterday dismissed reports local product Matt Dufty was set to be shifted from the club.

Dufty, who has another year on his contract, had been made to be the likely fall guy had the Dragons secured Hayne.

Dufty had sought out the Dragons senior football staff to seek confirmation about his future.

Dragons director of pathways and list management Ian Millward labelled “the speculation and misinformation” as “disappointing”.

“Matt is contracted for 2019 and will definitely be a part of our squad next year, there has never been any internal discussion that suggested otherwise,” Millward told the Dragons website yesterday.

Hayne’s arrival at St George Illawarra would have enabled utility Kurt Mann to secure a release from the final year of his contract to take up a multi-year deal to play hooker at Newcastle. But that deal is now uncertain.”

fair enough then, I probably read too far between the lines on that one, I take back what I said.

It was obvious. Only a complete simpleton wouldn’t have understood what you were saying.

New sexual assault allegations could end Hayne's sporting career

By Adrian Proszenko & Lucy Cormack

The sexual assault allegations levelled against Jarryd Hayne have the potential to end his sporting career, with Parramatta and St George Illawarra expected to abandon their pursuit of the embattled star’s signature.

Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault that took place in the Hunter region on grand final night. A NSW Police spokeswoman confirmed police were still yet to speak with Hayne, adding that the investigation was ongoing.

The alleged victim was reportedly in contact with Hayne via social media beforehand and claims to have photographic evidence of the injuries she sustained during the alleged incident. She was interviewed by the NRL integrity unit before reporting the matter to police on Monday.

Out of contract: The career of former Parramatta Eels star Jarryd Hayne hangs in the balance.Wolter Peeters

Hayne is currently defending a sexual assault allegation levelled against him in a civil lawsuit launched in the Santa Clara County Court in the US in December last year. The claim relates to an evening in December 2015, while Hayne was playing for the San Francisco 49ers, when he went home with a woman from a San Jose bar and allegedly had non-consensual sex with her.

Micha Liberty, the US lawyer for the woman at the centre of the claim, confirmed to the Herald on Friday that she was aware of the recent allegation in Australia.

"We don't know enough about the facts to comment on the new allegations. I will be following the matter closely to see what develops," she said.

Ms Liberty confirmed the US trial date had been set for January 27, 2020.

Hayne is unemployed after his Eels contract expired at the end of last season. Parramatta had hoped to offer him a new deal for 2019 but were unable to do so because only $200,000 remained in their salary cap. It is well short of the $700,000 the 30-year-old was seeking, although the blue and golds were hoping to offload a player to free up the required funds.

The Herald understands the Eels have decided to abandon their pursuit of Hayne after the latest allegations surfaced. Several officials remained unsure if he would fit in with the new culture the wooden spooners were trying to instill. There were also concerns about his fitness after he missed the start of pre-season, including a team camp in Armidale.

Hayne had been training with sprint coach Roger Fabri in a bid to remain fit but it’s understood those sessions were few and far between.

While Hayne isn’t a contracted Eels player, the club still made welfare support available to him after the latest claims were levelled on Thursday night.

Like Parramatta, the Dragons are expected to also withdraw their interest in Hayne. The Red V had met with Hayne about the prospect of taking one of the backline spots vacated by the departure of Nene Macdonald and the retirement of Jason Nightingale. Several rival clubs told the Herald that current fullback Matt Dufty had been made available to them as the Dragons sought to free up the cash to recruit the cross-code star.

St George Illawarra on Friday posted an interview with Dufty on their website in which he said he was reassured he was part of the club’s plans for 2019. Tellingly, the story was posted only after Hayne’s dramas became public.

"I've had a chat with the senior staff members at the club and they have assured me of my spot in 2019 so I'm keen to rip into pre-season and beyond for the Dragons," Dufty said.

"The club reassured me that if anything were to happen that they'd let me know before it hit the papers which is great to hear because I have a great relationship with everyone at the club and I'm looking to ripping in for them and all the boys."

No other NRL club had expressed an interest in Hayne prior to the latest allegations, although he has been linked to a potential switch to French rugby. If Hayne were to be charged, it could end those plans as well. Those facing serious offences can have their visas confiscated or be required to report regularly to local authorities.”

I hope for Haynes sake the media can ease up on him here. We want to highlight the devastating effects of mental illness so I hope the media don't drive him down that path. He was on top of the world at one stage and has fallen off the cliff big time and to have it all played out in the public has to be hard on anyone. No doubt he put himself here but lets not kick em while they are down.

I’ve changed my mind on some of this in the last year or so. Started to see a very unpleasant side of the #MeToo movement.
As with most issues like this it is very hard for the pendulum to rest in a balanced position. Those with neutral or balanced views tend to get ignored, shouted down or vilified by both more extreme ends of the spectrum. I find it quite despressing really.

It attracted "mean girls" real quick, as does feminism.
Feminism broadly has attracted a strand of ugly man hate over the last 5 years and it has taken over the femo media eg the SMH is now a total write off.
I support feminism when it is about promoting women (such as the WNRL etc...love it), when it is about bitter man hate it makes me sick.
