Jarryd Hayne - Make him an Eel for Life

Good on the club for showing some spine, it’s a shame he won’t be here next year but If that’s what the club thinks he is worth to us then fair enough.
Were they showing spine or was there just no more money? Bernie talking about dominoes falling into place seemed to be interpreted by most as we needed someone to leave so we could offer Hayne more money. But none of our deadshit loosers could be off-loaded, so was it actually showing spine or was it just poor cap management?

Well we have apparently 500k for him, He wants 700k plus. In the old days we would of just paid him what he wanted so I think yes we have showed some spine.

I took it as they wern't going to gush over him like they would have in days gone by. As stated before, a player is worth what a club is willing to pay.

Sounds to me like we were going to pay him closer to what he wanted if we could offload someone. And we can't give him all we have left if we still need to sign one more player.
You could be right though, as a two year contract would have allowed for some backending.

the most relevant question remains, how can Saints pay JH when we have issues, just looking at the 2 rosters , our club has a lot of explaining to do.

Why?

We just signed Jnr and Ferguson. We have Moses,Norman,MJ

There 1 - 7

1Dufty - Bevan
2 Pereira - Ferguson
3Aitken - MJ
4 Lafai - Gutherson
5 Lomax - G.J
6Widdop - Norman
7 Hunt - Moses

Bar Widdop and Hunt the rest would be on chicken feed. Id take out backline.

Yes Vaughn,Frizzel would be in a bit. Tariq Sims,Graheme and De bellin would be on solid contracts but hardly huge dollars.
And the bench isnt expensive. And they obviosuly lack depth. Once 2 or 3 guys where i jured they couldnt win a game.

The club signed Ferguson though mid season and that was after Jnr. At this stage I am sure the club knew Haynes contract was based on offloading guys which is always a risk.
I am suprised they didn't push a guy like Hoffman out towards end of season. Surely they knew that Norman,MJ and Moses on huge dollars would be quite hard to offload.
Hoffman would be on 250k and doubt see first grade bar a few odd games.Other teams would also know Eels are desperate and would be using to their advantage with Low ball offers.
Bevan is the only other logical option. My guess is his salary would be around the 300k mark and a few clubs would take the whole contract on.
Its certainly possible that BA doesn't care if Hayne is around as much as fans seem to think.

We made the top 4 without Hayne in 2017

If we are ok with injuries, and Norman/Moses can deliver more often than not

and MJ can be solid, not woefull

Paulo, Lane and Ferguson to improve the side a lot

"ifs" at this stage but also reasonable expectation, which should propel us to a huge season

Of course all the above could go pear shape just as easily

I think we're a pretty good chance at it now tbh.
And yet we had him this year too.
I’d love to re-sign him but I’m not spewing as much as when he left last time.
At the end of the day, even though it’ll draw the ire of noise, chippy et al, next year is a write off and signing Hayne would be a very stop gap measure.

Yeah but he had a bad preseason and BA admitted he brought him back from injury too soon. So I don't think he's injury prone as such and would expect more games from him next year. And if you're not making long-term signings then a stop-gap is better than nothing. Even a two year contract wouldn't have hindered any long term plans. I know that I would have been more hopeful of winning on the weekend if Hayne was playing.

Who to?
The Hayne issue is simple.
He wanted a 1 year contract at $750k and the club wanted 2 years at $500k.
If the club decided that is his worth to us, end of story and good on them for sticking to their guns despite fan petitions.

This f*cking club is a joke. Recruitment and retention has been diabolical for years. When was the last time we had two or three origin level players in the side? You can say 'good on them' for not paying more than they think he's worth, but what is the point? So we can buy players like Kane Evans and sign an over rated slob like Juniour Paulo to a four year deal? What the f*ck are they thinking? Hayne was our best back this year. He's a Parramatta legend. For a long time he was Parramatta. And this club hasn't got the f*cking foresight or imagination to fork out a bit extra for this once in a life-time crowd favourite. F*ck me, for a large part of this year I only watched Parramatta games because he was playing. And I don't think I'm the only one. I'm done. After more than fifty years, I can't support this club anymore. I'll still come on this forum from time to time because it's a funny place, but I'm going to follow the Wanderers from now on.

Yeah well, he's not a racehorse. However, it might be time to put him out to stud.

I don't think your the only one feeling this way mate. If we go into the season with this bottom 4 squad as it currently stands (no Hayne and keeping guys like MJ, Taka, Evans and French) then i won't be renewing my membership. I'll just watch on tv.
