I'm lost with the love of Lane. I doubt he's considered part of the Top 17. He was a fringe player in another bottom 4 side. His signing was announced with other fringe players in a bulk announcement.

People seem to be making him out as a world beater. He moved clubs because his current mob couldnt sign him due to salary cap..

He was ok with the ball in hand this year in a bad Manly team. But his defence on the edge is pretty bad.

Our recruitment policy has progressed to the "Sign anyone Tall" strategy. Lane is tall. Whats your problem?
If this strategy dosent work we will target "Players with the best Relationships" next year. Cant sit still in the recruitment game.

I'm trying to work out if this comment is serious or having a laugh...

The situation is that the only player that actually looked like a quality NRL member of our backline when fit, the powers that be couldn't organise the cap to fit him in. That's really poor, it really underlines how naive our front office has been recently.

There is little information from the club, which is disappointing in itself. It's difficult to believe that whoever is responsible for cap management oversaw the roster. We have signings that to,be frank are not up to the standard of the juniors coming through. Kaysa is signed despite not being able to participate in contact until the end of January, where is the NRLhooker in the top 29, and without JH a specialist fullback. It's a poorly constructed roster , and like most I I'll be at every home game, but very hard to be enthusiastic ( and I sat through the 80s and 90s at every game).

Like most you want to be positive, but after last year, with basically the same coaching staff and a not dissimilar line up likely without its best back, it's a bit draining.

I'd prepare for disappointment in 2019, but I can actually see a big clean out next year, that will involve playing roster, coaching staff and front office.

Other than Rammy (before we signed the bloke) thinks Lane is a world beater? He's an average NRL player with a bit of upside.

True, but he seemed to be the preferred fullback this year, and started the last game there. And it's not like we've signed a better one since then. At the very least he's fringe spine, very versatile, and capable of a lot more.
Good on the club for showing some spine, it’s a shame he won’t be here next year but If that’s what the club thinks he is worth to us then fair enough.

They show some 'spine' with Hayne, but absolutely splurge ridiculously on other players. Their recruitment and retention decisions have been an absolute farce for years.

So isn't that why them not giving him what he wants a good thing???

I've been as critical of the club as anyone but I have had enough of his BS,whinging on social media and him and his manager playing this all out in the media. Classic Jarryd, if he loves the club as much as he claims he would be happy to take a two year deal at 500k a season oh I forgot the poor bugger has bills to pay......

One final thought for the day, a player who most think is not the sharpest tool in the shed, is winning the battle of media and fans against the club. That's how poor the information and position from the club has been, who the heck knows what our media guy does, not much.

If we miss out on Hayne which nuffy are we going to purchase to improve our team? Or will we go into the season under the cap and hope a gun player magically becomes available in June and wants to join our bottom 4 team? Or will Taka or Will Smith get an upgrade and extension?

The only player we have that i am truely POed about salary wise is MJ ... others probably warranted their money at the time they were signed .... sure they havent lived up to it, but no one has a crystal f**kin ball

Hell MJ might even get his finger out and play decent next season, but i'd probably still consider him overpaid

Well we have apparently 500k for him, He wants 700k plus. In the old days we would of just paid him what he wanted so I think yes we have showed some spine.

Did they show some spine by signing an over-rated plodder like Juniour Paulo to a four year deal? This club doesn't have any spine. Don't kid yourself. I used to be proud of this club. Not anymore.

I'm happy either way if he goes or stays. I'd like to see him at the Eels but at the end of the day he's over 30 and injury prone. If he was arguably our best player in 2018 then that says a lot about the rest of the team. 500K sounds more than fair. Besides, where do we play him if he stays? Shore up the fullback position or keep him on the wing? There are options if he goes elsewhere, the world will still turn. Glad to see the club is not visiting the past when it comes to players demands.

I don't understand the "he was our best player in 2018" nonsense - surely Daniel Alvaro deserves that mention?

Surely Norman on apparently well over $900k was stupid money for a bloke who was causing as much trouble as he was when he re-signed?
