FTR..

I think he will make special teams of kick returns...both kick offs and punts..

Then get the odd run at FB and RB.

Over the three years...

Your yet to evolve bonehead. I and Ron have been following NFL and talking about it on here for ages while most mocked it. I am following Haynes story too. But gee some of use go on like know one else wears the blue and gold and TBH it makes me a little sick. We have guys called Semi- Pauli-Tepai. Start backing them rather then going on about the greatest ever.
As far as impossible task goes - I reckon semi would of scored with that much space TBH. Hayne made a great debut, Surprised me and I reckon he gets on the 53 man squad.Im very happy and will prob fly over and watch him. Even thou im an eagles boy. We have new stars now at parra we should be falling in love with thou rather then wanking on here about this kid from minto that wanted to buy his mum a house.

What the f**k are you on about? Who isnt supporting the current team? Did you not see the majority of love the team got for a really good effort last night?

This is the Jarryd Hayne thread, are we not allowed to talk about him in here?

I haven't ever mocked the NFL either.

And for the record I will wank about whoever I want in whenever I want, while you wank about the Panthers constantly in a Parramatta Eels forum!

I'm pretty sure I've professed my man love for Junior Paulo, Semi and Peats in the past too, but whatevs!

You are being ridiculous.
Here is a bloke we have cheered for for many years, trying his hand at a new sport (seemingly one that is incredibly hard to get in to) and he has succeeded at his first attempt.

I don't see why you are downplaying this. Why should we not be happy about it?

I am both an Eels fan AND a 49ers fan. I am absolutely over the moon with how Jarryd performed today. I want him to succeed over there, and I will cheer for him if/when he does.

He got sacked twice in his first series, the second one resulted in a safety, luckily for him he got slightly better but yeah, wasn't so good.

Those first two sacks weren't really his fault. The O-line was disgraceful and just let the pass-rush through. Horrible stuff.

Hayne's work at running back was decent.
He had his big run for 53 yards, but he also picked up a couple of first downs on his other runs.
His 'mistake' where he dropped a pass was pretty tough to handle. QB passes it to Hayne with the defender basically already in his face and he gets smashed. No chance of a fumble though because he never really had any control over the ball, so incomplete pass.

His work returning kicks and punts was very good. He was bringing the ball back well and making good yards every time. In fact, his efforts today were better than just about every kick return the Niners did last season.

It's only the first game, so not getting carried away or anything. He was up against second-stringers for most of the time (sounds bad but is actually a good thing). Am looking forward to seeing how he goes again next week.

This can't be downplayed.

He goes there late last year, gets a team interested, makes a training squad, makes a run on team for the first trial and has an impressive debut.

There is literally nothing more he could have achieved by this date. Nothing.

yeah i thought we'd already moved on - eg. paying every merkin 3x what they are worth

I think you were the only one left in denial Avenger

There's actually been a few dicks on here talking/hoping of and about Jarryd's return.

TBH, I still don't know whether he will make it. Honestly I don't.
But I always said it from the start, and I think parra pete was the only one who backed me up, that I think Jarryd will make it because of the person he is. He is a strongly focused individual with enormous, extraordinarily mental and physical talents. He has faith, strong faith, which I admire, and he has a rare commodity in humans - self belief in his own talent and ability.
We all doubt ourselves at times, but it's only the bravest of the best of us that actually take our talents to the Nth degree.
Jarryd is one of those people who has the balls enough to try it. And, above and beyond all of that, he's had the balls enough to give up a hell of a life to do it.
I've, at times thought I could have gone on to bigger and better things than my mundane life in my chosen profession. But it was that next step, and the step after, that held me back, so I was content in my comfy everyday life experience that ultimately keeps me a satisfied human and feeds my kids. I've never really strived for more than that.

It's people like Jarryd that can be an inspiration to millions of young kids, and for someone like him who has already achieved so much, and has sacrificed so much more, for his dream...... I can only admire such courage.

He may have only been 26 when he left our club, but he is the greatest Eel that has ever worn the Blue and Gold in my eyes, and I have seen the best of them.........except Thornett.

 wisdom and knowledge

I rarely bag any specific players. Sure, during a match when we play dumb football like we do I call it out, a lot of people do.

Our club is run by amateurs and has been for quite some time, can you argue that?

Am I positive about next year? I have barely mentioned next year but if you want my opinion I am. I like the signing of Foran, Scott and Gordon. Adding some quality will be a big help and we will make the 8 as long as we don't have the same injury toll as we do this year.

The only question mark is if we lose Hoppa and don't replace him with a decent centre, we will then be a bit thin.

Agreed with everything Suity. :D I was also one of those who could see Jarryd making it in the NFL. Even though as an Eels tragic I wanted him to come back for selfish reasons, I've not let that get in the way of supporting Jarryd going for his NFL dreams.

Who could ever want that? Surely, nobody.

Jarryd is doing what Jarryd wants. He has my blessing, because he did everything he could for Parra. He was a brilliant player and gave our club everything he could.
Anyone who says otherwise, is just a douchebag.

Yup. Jarryd gave it his all for us.

It's a shame he's no longer an Eel from an Eels fan's perspective - but what a great athlete he is to go over to the States and pick up a new code inside 12 months.

All the best, Jarryd, and thanks for the memories.

WHAT’S NEXT

August 24, exhibition v Dallas: Hayne can win over the home fans in this exhibition game at Levi’s Stadium, doing so against one of the 49ers’ long-time rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.

August 30, exhibition at Denver: The third exhibition typically offers the most playing time for projected starters, thus providing the closest to a real-game environment.

September 1, roster cut to 75: Initial cuts might come a day or two sooner, but the roster must be reduced from a maximum 90 players to 75 by 1pm. (Pacific time).

September 4, exhibition v San Diego: If Hayne makes it through the first cuts, this exhibition finale at home could be his last shot at winning over coaches and general manager Trent Baalke.

September 15, regular season v Minnesota: If all goes to plan, Hayne could make his NFL debut at home against the Vikings.
