Really??? The new bloke got extra time to get things in place for next season.

Prefer they sacked baldie earlier than let him stink up the joint for 3 more months achieving nothing and then giving the new bloke less time for 2025. The season was toast what would have done?? Kept on cupping???

I think Gary wanted them to set his balls on fire and March him down Chirch st nude

I wanted BA gone, but hoped we’d find a better replacement.

I think JR will prove to be a dud.
Give the bloke 40 mins of the 1st trial match before deciding if he is a dud or not.

He hasn't coached a game yet ffs.

I hope he does well and has my full support.

If we gave Arthur 11 years.

Ryles should have plenty of time to turn around things.

What gives you the impression JR will be a dud?
He's served an awesome apprenticeship and should go well.
To me, as an outsider, it looks like he has come to the Eels to rebuild the joint. Apart from sorting out Gutherson's wants and the team's needs I think he'll need to sort out the roster/contracts.
I was once shown a model of how it should work from a close friend and a former Socceroo and club manger.
It resembled a pyramid. The base was made up of debutantes, min wage and development/train and trial players and fringe first graders. You might ask that it's a lot of players but it does include fringe players who are parked in KOE or even pathways.
It works it's way up to the top marquee player, the best most influential player in the club.
The rest is self explanatory.
The point is most clubs stuff up by having too many players of the same category (top third in your case) and not enough players in the base level that are quality.
The success of Brad Arthur's tenture can be gauged on how healthy this base level was when he departed..I don't know this.
The new coach will have a hard time rebuilding if he doesn't have a solid pathway and reserve graders.
How does he rebuild....follow the pyramid model.
Why do clubs deviate from this process. It's because the club, sponsors and supporters demand success now. The new coach always states that they are a pathways team but always want to get the best roster as his job is insecure. They eventually stuff it up.
My coach Benji, not long after his appointment, stated that we are a development club but shortly thereafter signed 4 halfbacks because he panicked ...go figure.

The same people doubting Ryles are the same people who championed the Bald fraud for 11 years. It’s weird.

They are concerned about another rookie coach. Fair ?

I’m excited, cos change is good. However it’s above my pay grade to make long term predictions (even past 6 months) about his success.

TBH I think the 11 years thing is an over-hyped trope. Post salary cap dramas, we were on a good trajectory. The downfall of our club was the failure to adequately replace the players we lost from the 22 grand final team. That and squad depth is the reason why we failed to back up in 23 and 24.

Hopefully JR and the back office can make sure that they rectify this, pronto.

Well matty johns came out last week and said as good a job Brad did he was here way too long.

Basically what 90% of the forum have been saying for 3 years.

If we pinched a premiership then Brad is probably still here. And I reckon 99% wouldn't give a shit as well.

Unfortunately we didn't and now have to embark on a new era to break the drought.

It’s one person. That person is on record as wanting BA gone in 2018.

Towards the end of BA’s tenure everyone was fighting over who wanted him gone first. I’ve just made it easy for everyone when we all eventually turn on JR.

Been a few others questioning Ryles, and they were on the Bea Arthur express with no stops till bald town. You wanted him gone in 2018?? Yet you continually made excuses for him the last 6 years…….

40 years of history. Can’t see a rookie coach being able to successfully navigate all the bullshit that comes with the role.
I think the board have no choice, either them or MON work with Ryles or they are all gone. I’ve heard some bewildering stories since Bea finally got punted. If any are true it’s the biggest fluke of all time is making a GF let alone us making finals at all. We have been ridiculously under coached and the biggest tick for me with Ryles is is specifically bringing in an attack coach to up skill the players. That has been something seriously lacking at the club since Brian Smith.

A 30% Trent Barrett made us look like the Harlem Globetrotters in attack without a genuine 7.

No team scored more points in a game this year against Penrith then what we did at Commbank.

The way we played without Moses since origin has me more confident next year that we will surprise a few. We looked sharper with the ball then what we have looked for a long time.

We were severely undercoached and too comfortable in whatever roles the players had with the previous regime.
