Short term the money looks good, but long-term a young player's career can get side-tracked and their form becomes worse because they took the big dollars over stability and a team that works for them. Here's a list of players who took the money and ran and didn't pan out.

Paul Green- left the sharks for the Cowboys

Dale Shearer- left Manly for the Broncos (admitted leaving Manly was a mistake)

Chris Sandow- left Souths for Parramatta

Adam Blair - left Storm for the Tigers

Benny Barber - left Bulldogs for the Broncos

Brett Kimmorley- left Melbourne for Manly

Did JT really say that?

As for JT3, how you begrudge him that sort of cash.

I would hate to lose him, but you can't mortgage the clubs future with that sort of salary.

He'll be eligible for the veteran player allowance soon, this is his fifth season since he made his debut.

That could help the Cowboys a bit.

if Taumalolo does sign with the warriors for 2016, how is that even a big deal? How is that taking the money and running? Is he the only player to change clubs?

Hasn't walked out on any contact or negotiated any sort of release. Hasn't gone to another code either.

It's a big deal because the Cowboys have developed him from a young age and he's becoming one of the best players in the game and a contract this big would make him one of the highest paid players at age 21.

He wouldn't be doing anything wrong if he leaves but it's still a major talking point and it would be devastating for Cowboys fans to lose him just as he's becoming an elite player.

Gotta be a lock for Saints, surely. Any forward who doesn't want to be running off Mitch Rein's electric passing game is kidding themselves.

It's a big deal for Cowboys fans, losing probably the best young forward in the game.

No sensible fan would claim he did anything wrong, though.

It's swings and roundabouts, we could then use the cash to sign someone's else young talent, for example.

I'm not going to pretend that him leaving wouldn't be a huge loss though.

Cowboys developed him??

The kid was poached from Auckland as a 13yr old who was already playing for the NZ U16's.

All the Cowboys did was get in first...

He was always going to develop in to this kind of footballer...

If anything... it could be seen as poetic justice if he ends up playing his prime years in Auckland considering how dodgy it is to go after 13yr old kids...

So he hasn't developed at all in the last 10 years since moving as a 12 year old?

He has improved immensely in the last 12 months under Paul Green, let alone the last 10 years.

The Cowboys put a lot of time and money into him.

There is a shit-ton of can't miss prospects out there.

To say a kid of 13 is always going to be good is big stretch.

Shit there was a thread on LU not more than 6 months ago claiming that JT3 was a dud.

I was making the point that a young player such as Taumalolo a change of scenery could well hurt him rather then help him. And have listed examples where this has happened. You have listed a couple of players who have already been already established and change teams. So what does this disprove the point I'm making???

He moved as a 12yr old?? It's getting younger and younger each time I hear it...

This kid was poached as a 13yr old.

The kid was 13yr's old playing for a NZ u16 rep side.... The Cowboys scout decided they had to have him so they signed a 13yr old.

I'm not saying this kid hadn't developed at the Cowboys... But let's be honest here... He was always going to develop in to this footballer.

The Cowboys did put a lot of time and money in to him... But that's what happens when you poach 13yr old kids.

I think you really believe that shit . . . not surprising with the NFL connection
