Leaving the “ should he or not be ? “ out of the equation, just where in the hell does that bluudy 1st class drongo Dil Rothschild get off starting a poll on the subject ? ?

How two-faced can a man be ? Did he start a poll on Flanagan or the idiot with nine lives Barba ? No of course not as it was too close to home , so let’s have one on our boy Jack.
He always seems to have the necessity to throw shat on players from other clubs , do us all a big favour Phil and take early retirement so we no longer need to read the crap that goes with your ‘ headline ‘ stories and bigotry.

While the allegations against De Belin were confronting and I have no idea whether he is guilty or innocent, I found some strange elements in the way the situation played out after the alleged rapes had taken place. The newspaper report I read stated that the girl showered, booked an Uber for the three of them and proceeded to a nightclub with them. After being at the nightclub for a short time, only then did she go to hospital.

Even allowing for shock, this is certainly a strange way to respond to an assault. Remembering what happened in Coffs Harbour with the Bulldogs and the Brett Stewart case, I'm of the view that we have to give De Belin the presumption of innocence and let him play.

Fine but what about the bruises ? Did she go home , hit herself with a hammer and then go to the police ?I'd say she went home and someone there had a discussion of what occurred and was encouraged and partnered to the hospital. She may not be very bright and needed this support. It is alright to say that the club believes that Jack has a good case to present but what angle could he be playing ? She and the cops obviously think they certainly have a water tight case for a conviction otherwise why would you put yourself through this ( for potentially 2 years ) ?

To tell the truth i don't care what or how Jack is treated ( it was a grub act at the very least consensual or not ) but I do care about the Dragons and this has potential to derail our season before a ball is kicked and for me suspension on full pay until this is resolved.

While the poll isn’t in the best taste, I imagine he didn’t start a poll in Flanno or Barbs because they actually got stood down on some basis...that, plus their crimes aren’t as bad as JDBs charges...

We still only have part of one side of the story. Both sides of the full story will be put to the courts during the trial. De Belin has obviously told his side of the story to the Club and to the NRL. I'm sure he also would have told the cops.

So until we know both sides of the full story, I suggest we just leave it alone.

I do appreciate what you are saying , however no one ( at this point in time ) really knows if indeed their crimes are as bad or perhaps worse than JDB ‘s , until it has gone through the judicial process .

It was undoubtedly in bad taste as you have said .

I’m not having a go at you mate, but I want to note that although it’s not how we generally think people react to those situations, it is in fact an extremely common reaction. Often it takes several days for women to go to seek treatment or tell someone. Behaving that way in the situation she describes is actually not unusual at all.

That’s why I used the word charges in JDBs case. I’m genuinely trying to think of a worse charge being leveled at a player in the last decade or two...

I am not writing this to get into arguments but to seek other opinions. I still strongly believe in JDB right to innocence until proven guilty however since the release of the actual allegations this week in court I have been in shock. This is not a good look for the NRL or St George, I’m now thinking he shouldn’t play until after the trial. Other thoughts would be great appreciated.
I personally think he's brought the club into a bad place and he should be sitting on his bum waiting for his day in court.... Agree to disagree but that's my opinion. Stupidity should not be an excuse... FRANK FACER would be turning over in his grave.....

Notwithstanding all the legal arguements, I'm still struggling to see why the club wouldn't stand him down irrespective of the presumption of innocence. We happily stood down Dane Neilson for allegedly biting a woman at a nightclub. We happily stood down Craig Garvey for allegedly punching someone. What's the diff?

JDB is one the best players in the team for starters. It's really simple. This case could last over a year or longer. What if he is stood down and then found not guilty? He would be within his rights and should sue the NRL and the club.

You're kidding right? We should not stand down the best players, only the bad ones? His worth to the team should have nothing to do with it.

Interesting comparison. Perhaps you're not aware of the attitude towards women in Frank Facer's day compared to now.
In the 60s there was lot things going on that weren't reported. Probably simpler times, but not the good old days as some people want to believe.

I didn't state it is right only the reality. If he were a fringe first grader, they would have stood him down. What is right is that he can't be stood down because if the trial takes 1 or 2 or more years and he is found not guilty, he could and should sue the club and NRL for millions.

Ridiculous analogy
If he is paid then he has no redress even if he doesn’t play
We have fulfilled our contractual obligations just as if he had a career ending injury.
Imagine if this happened during his contract renewal period say 3 months out from his contract ending
He would get nothing and be entirely friendless
He should thank his lucky stars for the blessing that he has some income whilst this mess of his own making gets sorted.

No, as usual you are wrong. He still has sponsors and pay for rep games/representative duties. That is why Brett Stewart wasn't stood down for sexual assault but for public drunkenness.

Now you are touching on philosophy. Obviously unwittingly.

You are right. He wouldn't have been offered a contract. And if he was found not guilty he should sue the accuser. But he can't get any more from the accuser than she is worth. If she has only $20.00 and a surfboard to her name, JDB could only sue her for $20.00 and a surfboard.

She could be jailed for the false accusation but if that were the case, real victims would be extremely reluctant about coming forward.

Lets just be glad that scenario isn't relevant and one of our best players will be and should be on board for round 1.

IMO from all I have heard about the case, he is not guilty. If a jury finds him guilty, I will be wrong but until then, he isn't guilty and should be available for selection.

Australian Rugby League Commission to consider standing down NRL players accused of serious crimes
Dragons Den
r0_0_1700_899_w1200_h678_fmax.jpg

Ben Barba, Jack de Belin and Jarryd Hayne have had serious allegations made against them.
The Australian Rugby League Commission has announced it will launch a review of its policy on player behaviour, potentially opening the door to Dragons forward Jack de Belin being stood down while he faces rape allegations.

After discussions with the NRL Integrity Unit, St George Illawarra released a statement declaring de Belin would play in their upcoming trial games, starting against Newcastle next Saturday, and when the season officially kicks off on March 16.

However, on Friday, the ARL Commission said their policy framework would be reviewed as a matter of urgency, after a disastrous off-season where Ben Barba was deregistered for alleged domestic violence and Jarryd Hayne faces sexual assault allegations.

De Belin will front court against on April 17 after pleading not guilty to the charges he raped a woman inside his cousin’s apartment on Gipps Street in the early hours of December 9 last year while his friend and co-accused, Callan Sinclair, 21, watched on.

"The Australian Rugby League Commission's (ARLC) policy on player behaviour will be reviewed when the Commission meets on February 28," ARLC Chairman Peter Beattie said.

"At that time, we will consider the position put forward by Melbourne Storm Chairman, Bart Campbell and other leaders of the game. It will also be on the agenda when Club and State Chairs and CEOs meet on 28 February.

"The ARLC sets policy. The NRL implements it.

"The ARLC is strongly opposed to anyone in Rugby League being involved in violence of any kind , especially domestic violence and any behaviour which brings the game into disrepute.

"The ARLC has instructed the NRL to take the strongest possible action against any player engaged in such behaviour - from serious fines, to suspensions and de-registration."
