Someone and or some people aren't giving up and are making sure that he doesn't get back in the nrl again.

The determination and resolve of the Police indicates that they feel as if they have a strong case.
For the Club's sake, this episode needs come to a conclusion whatever the outcome.

I admit I have no idea about the outcome or any inkling about the strength of the case but am I the only one that feels the extra (less serious) charges are being laid as a security blanket in the event if the prosecution fail to establish beyond reasonable doubt the rape charge took place. It just seems odd to me.

I’d also say video footage putting the victim and offenders entering and leaving adds little strength to either sides case as I’d say that fact is not in dispute.

If I’m honest to myself I’d say I’m hoping for a positive outcome but my gut feeling is this will be a real bad outcome, I really hope I’m wrong.

Apart from stating the obvious, this affects everyone at the club.
Players in particular.
Conclusion is important for all parties and once the justice system provides an outcome, the waiting will be over for all concerned.

I think your question highlights the fact I should not of used the words “positive outcome”. I can only answer by saying an outcome that appropriately addresses the incident is the best result that can be achieved.

I hope there is a legal resolution sooner rather than later. I'm happy for the Dragons to lend support to JDB thru the process, but the club really need to move on & past. It's too big a weight to burden along with coach McAnchor. Double whammy chain!

I said very early on the NRL, SGI and De Belin's lawyers should have sat down and worked out a deal whereby this story was not a headline into the future.

The NRL itself should have offered the no fault stand down together with a buyout of De Belin's contract and the removel of De Belin off SGI's salary cap. The arrangements of this deal to be kept confidential by all 3 parties.

In this way the story would have died down and not 'caused the NRL loss of revenue' or bad press.

SGI would not have been penalised salary cap wise and could have had some time to replace De Belin like for like early in the season.

De Belin would have been assured of his contract money and so if found guilty, his partner and child would at least have income support. If found innocent the NRL could allow him to re-join the club on the condition that the remainder of his contract salary would be returned to the NRL.

I get that his wife and child would need something to help them get back on their feet in that instance..

But.. In what logical world would a convicted criminal’s family be entitled to additional financial reward, particularly to the level that this salary is?

Let’s say it’s same scenario, but the defendant works at hungry jacks for minimum wage. Would the same level of financial compensation be made available to the wife and child of this defendant?

It is just another case of footballers being treated better than the rest of society..

The extra charge is a lesser charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm maybe police evidence for rape isn't a strong some may think it is

Please note, in summary, what I am saying is that as forum members we really don't know what happened.

Medical evidence can be interpreted differently by different parties.

Unlike drink drive testing which provides a clear result.

Thats right Possm, I will never know the feeling of a woman being raped. Horrifying of course. She called the cab after the accused abusive event and got in a cab with her accused perpetrators.That just does not stack up. Rape is devastating particulary to young women, and I just cant see a young girl forgetting or even controlling her ordeal and move on with the rest of the evening without an emotional reaction.

I suggest everyone does a bit of simple research on PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Plenty of basic information online; Wikipedia etc. It's easy to take a view of peoples' behavior after a traumatic event and compare it to a calm, rational person's reaction. Shock, denial, shame, confusion can lead to cause all sorts of irrational behavior.
