News JDB Trial

If it's another hung jury, does the prosecutor call it quits, or do they have a period of time to decide whether to go again?

A friend of mine wants to know if JDB can play against the Storm this weekend or not.

I think it will depend on whether the DPP announces whether they intend to go for another re-trial on the unresolved charges or not.

Just saw this...

NRL 2021: Jack de Belin verdict; jury unable to reach unanimous verdict in rape trial, news, updates | Fox Sports

Jack de Belin has been found not guilty on one count in Downing Centre Court in Sydney on Monday, while the jury was unable to reach a verdict on an additional five counts against the NRL player.
It means De Belin, and his co-accused Callan Sinclair, will have the five charges against them dropped unless a third trial is requested.

The prosecution has until May 28 to decide whether to go to a third trial, or drop the case.

Yeah, but do they have a time limit on their decision on how to proceed? Can they sit and ponder for 6 days or 6 months?

I can't imagine the NRL lifting the NFSD ban until the legal process is completed.

Edit: Just saw the 28 May deadline in post above.

The NRL should never have imposed a NFSD ban until the legal process is completed.

Enough is enough there have been 2 trials and he hasn't been found guilty.

If the DPP run this again, it's a shocking waste of resources

Or the girl who feels that she was sexually assaulted...
I doubt she would even want to go through all of that again. It must be taking a significant mental and financial toll on the poor thing. Our judicial system is daft

Yeah there's clearly a lot of doubt in the case. I'm surprised they found him not guilty of anal rape but then couldn't reach a decision on the rest. That there was still doubt he was not guilty on the rest is interesting.

Anyway there's no real point in going to a 3rd trial.
