It's more to do with the juniors culture down here I think.

We take a lot of pride in our juniors down here and many of these kids start getting noticed by us fans at quite a young age (some times as young as 15-16). So sometimes a gun player comes along, often not from the best circumstances and and suddenly he is being treated like he is more important then other people and told he is the best in the world and suddenly he can get pretty much whatever he wants. Pretty quickly some of these kids start to grow a huge ego and start to think that they are irreplaceable and then one thing turns into another and before you know it he has ended up as another Dugan or Carney.

Of course this is not always the case when you have blokes like Fensom, Croker, Sammy Williams, etc. etc. Who come through this same system and turn out to be some of the nicest, most humble guys you could meet (particularly Fensom, I have nothing but good things to say about him, on or off the field).

Fensom is poured out of the same mould as guys like Hindmarsh, Gallen, Matt Scott, etc. He has a perpetual motion engine in his body somewhere and can just keep running and tackling for 80 minutes.

He was a huge reason why they won the Toyota cup a few years back. Having a guy who can defend like that in the under 20s is gold. He also has great leadership skills not unlike the other guys I mentioned.

Big future ahead of him. Rate him very highly.

Well based on media reports (so ranging from maybe true to completely made up) fergo fronted training and Dugan didn't. one has clearly more desire to continue playing for the raiders. I mean the dudes obviously dumb as shit if duges can just go Welp lets have a few drinks instead of training and Ferguson goes...sure why not but there does seem to be some commitment to fix it from Ferguson.

Ah fair enough. That makes sense he stays as he went to training and made the effort.

I couldn't cop it if people were saying Fergie was a victim because of Dugan though. He was "mucking" up 4 years ago at the Sharks.

Oh I don't think he is a victim. He is a bit of a turkey but a turkey that can be fixed. Plus I feel A LOT better about the situation if we keep one of them (for depth if nothing else) and he is the most willing to change based on his behaviour after the event.

Fergo appears to actually love the club but is a bit brainless. Dugan has shit on the club and its fans. Massive difference between the two IMO.

Fergo's a wanker, but Dugan's a merkin.

The Raiders have handled this well and I think they deserve commendation, just as they did in dealing with Todd Carney.

They have indeed. The raiders seem to conduct their affairs well. They have been unlucky with some massive wankers in their sides over the last few years. You put all this effort into young players who become older great players then they have to f**k them off because of poor attitude & end up playing against them. Must be frustrating.
In contrast, It's strange that Dave Furner could probably turn up to training drunk and naked & they would offer him a 2 year contract extension.

I love it when Canberra fans give Novocastrians shit about being bogans. FMD... rofl, have a look in your own backyard. If you can't see a pattern forming with the blokes you produce then you're ignorant and blind. What a shitty, toxic culture. Canberra need a cleanout.

They do. Starting with one Jed Bogan.

Furner can't coach, but he can knuckle. Wish he'd shown Jed Bogan what he knows best.

I honestly can't understand why you would throw away $650k just because you hate your boss.

Raiders management have to take a tough stance on this to demonstrate to younger players rising through the ranks that talent does not equate to unlimited privelege and that with poor behaviour comes consequences.

It is a cliche, but no one player is bigger than the club. It?s time ALL players learnt this simple but valuable lesson.

There are multiple benefits to sacking him but this is the biggest. The Raiders depend on their juniors coming through the ranks and if the board is facing the option of letting him go (while sending a message to other young players and freeing up cap space) or taking a gamble and keeping him (in the hopes of him remaining injury free and, even less likely, becoming less of a dickhead) I'd say they would be far more inclined to let him go.

He's totally made his bed here and no amount of athlete diatribe can absolve him of his immaturity.

I study in Newy and travel to Canberra, the bogans are as bad as one-another.

Please, most players who have played for Canberra over the years are nice country blokes (tongue). There has only been a few exceptions like Carney and Dugan. Anyone who thinks Canberra is full of bogans has never spent time there. I have been to areas of Sydney and Brisbane that are absolutely feral. Canberra is nothing like that.

Noone has suggested Western Sydney is anything less than the most feral, disgusting place in the country (look at Parramatta and Bulldogs supporters for reference) but you can't deny the outskirts of Canberra are pretty bogan.

Dugan is barely on the field anyway. Raiders should cut their losses instead of paying him out intl Rd13.

Stand him down till round 13 from all club duties, no training, no contact with the playing group (who all seem to think he's a wanker anyway) and tell ferguson that if he's seen hanging out with him then he can expect further punishments. Let him party on rooftops drinking bitch drinks all he likes, by himself while the rest of the club move on with their season without him.
