With regards to a new NRL logo, I don't see the need for a corporate logo and then a competition logo (both of which are emblems) If the logo is simple enough it can then stand alone and be incorporated in many ways. I also think it really needs to be in the shape of a ball like the examples below.

I love the simplicity of the NBL one. Below is an example of how these simple logos have been incorporated with sponsors or into emblems.

It seems the current NRL logo followed the same direction as all the current cricket logos did. Cricket use that funny skew shaped emblem for everything! I guess what I'm saying is that instead of creating an emblem from scratch, they should first and foremost create a logo as their brand then incorporate that logo into an emblem. It makes it hard when the emblem is the brand.

I honestly can't remember Steve Walters playing for the Knights. Apparently he played 7 games in 1999.
Career fizzled out with the Cows and then joined the Knights before an injury finished him off.

How many logos have the NBL had over the years? every 2nd year they seem to have a re-branding, pity its still basketball.

The NBL have had less logos that you probably think. The most recent rebrand in 2015 was part of a big overhaul for the league and will probably stick for a long time.

So something super simple similar to this?

Yes like that. I think the current NRL font is perfect and in the true sense of the word a logo (logotype) in itself. There wouldn't be much more you would need to do to this.

Definition: Also called logotype. a graphic representation or symbol of a company name, trademark, abbreviation, etc., often uniquely designed for ready recognition.

The only rebranding they’ve had was with that ad when the black guy jumped in bed with old mates missus, and they got shut down quick smart. Can’t find it online

The BP logo wasn't that big on the original, but I get your point

Wow I love this pic. Was it an "official" team photo??

Such a classic photo for so many reasons;
First grade players sitting cross-legged on the grass
Yellow Shorts on old mate in the back row far right.
Odd socks in the front row, wearing sneakers
The big blue bloomers on the old balding plump (presumably) trainer far right
Many Knights Legends in the mix, chief, stewart, schuster, hagan, sargent, glanville.. others?

The photo is on the Knights website so it would be an official photo.

Yep, I clearly remember Steve Walters playing for Newcastle in 1999. It was his last season in the NRL, and slowly made way for Danny Buderus to take over.
I remember the NRL Double-Header that kicked off the season at the new Stadium Australia. It was the first event at the Olympic stadium and included Newcastle vs Manly (Newcastle won) and Parra vs the newly-merged St.George-Illawarra (I don't recall who won that one) in front of 104,583 people. When the teams ran out, it looked so weird to see Walters in the red-and-blue of Newcastle.
The Knights' socks that year were half black (possibly as a way of slowly introducing black in as a sort of '3rd' but unofficial colour ... basically for marketing purposes), but that only lasted that one year. Like me at the time, I guess not too many people were keen on it!

Me too. We lost!
I also went to an Origin there when it was in that configuration. Telegraph was giving away $5 tickets in the huge stands behind the posts. The passing aeroplanes were closer than the ant sized players.

Yep I was at both of those as well. Up in the back couple of rows on level 6 for the double header, could barely make out who the players were. I remember making a paper plane out of some advertising during the break between games and having it land on the field from the top of the stadium. Good times lol

I picked the socks out because the fella behind him has normal blue and red. ??

During the origin match someone stole the big tub of tomato sauce from the kiosk and started squirting it which started a MASSIVE fight. Punches were thrown and seats were breaking as the people fighting fell. It was very scary but would have looked hilarious from ground zero (or if you were watching from a plane)
