Aces was another name being thrown around in the early days for Melbourne.

Not sure if it is on Melbourne's Wiki page anymore, but I remember reading a few years back that Lachlan Murdoch shit-canned the Mavericks name because it was too 'American'.

Regarding ‘Aces’ (slightly off topic), this was created by a fan when Vegas was throwing around different names for their new NHL team. They eventually picked ‘Golden Knights’ which IMO is f**king terrible. This would have been much better as the aces are applicable to not only the casino side of things but the also the huge air force base just outside of the city.

The first 2 looking at the dates would have been submitted to use during SL, the ARL claimed the names and logos during 1997 so it would neither would have seen the light of day.

The 3rd one was the membership logo used for a couple of years. It was on the letter heads of emails and on the merch for all members for a few years. The font of the ‘NQ’ is similar to the font on the old NQ marlins jerseys dating back to the 30’/40’s.

The 4th one, f**k me. Kill it with fire. Looks like it was submitted just prior to 1995, thank christ they never used it.

I'm pretty sure it's just a mascot logo, every team had their mascot ripping through their logo, I just wanted to throw it in for how messed up it was

Yeah all good, i just had never seen it before. Would love to see a modern take on the NQ logo. I liked the NQ NRL touch logo used this year

I’d get rid of the shoulders and keep the face and hat if you were to adopt it for a pro team.

This is a nice logo. Very similar to the new NRL logo. First lodged 7 years ago by the Australian Rugby League Commission (which is just the registered name for the NRL). I can't remember where I've seen it before..maybe on merchandising (a cap?)

Looks like they drew inspiration from the Chicago Bulls (it was designed around the time the Bulls were dominating yeah?)
