That's a valid point too, but I still think most people would agree that the Warriors jersey 2003-05 was better. I hate the mentality that clubs change their jersey just for the sake of it, even if the new design is total garbage. It's no coincidence that, 10 years after Sewerleague, more teams are starting to revert to their more traditional designs after realising that changing your jersey to every possible design under the sun doesn't really boost merchandise sales. It's only a rare breed of fan who feels that they have to go out and buy their teams' new jersey, no matter how crap it is.

You matter how hard you try, you can't place all the ills of the Rugby League world at the hands of SuperLeague. It's been more then 10 years since those events took place - get over it...

And I'm sure Newcastle has maintained the exact same strip since their inception, right? If not, better get your hate on....

I think he's just making reference to the great simplicity in jersey design prior to SL, I don't think he's taking a dig at it. ;-)

How many jerseys do clubs sell in the NRL? Some of the SL teams sell over 10,000. How does this compare? Personally as long as the main colours and "tradition" is retained I don't mind a different jersey each year. Makes for a nice collection for us jersey hoarders!

That's your opinion - but a bloke like 'Knightmare' should probably examine how close the Knights came to signing with SL before he begins his regular taunts and SL-based abuse. It gets a little tiring when people are constantly implying their clubs allegiance to the ARL makes them morally superior to other posters - despite the fact that many of the teams involved in ARL/SL agreements (i.e Knights) were pretty 'flaky' regarding which RL body to join.

Did you even read...? You're the one making it an indepth SL issue now... let's just stick to the jerseys instead of re-hashing a past you yourself denounced:

I hope Brisbane's don't change too much... that said I still don't understand why white is their away jersey when they have gold in their club colours.

The blue and gold that is a fixture of the Broncos away jersey represents Brisbane's official colours, which are: Blue and Gold.

Maroon and white were originally chosen as the Broncos colours because they represented Brisbane Bulimba cup sides, and the gold:to symbolise the QLD sunshine.

(Don't credit me for the last bit of information)

Apart from the piece of paper it's printed on or the computer screen it's smacked onto, I don't ever recall seeing white as part of Bronco heritage.

As I said... why not make the Gold predominant on the away strip, instead of white - a colour not often widely associated with the team.

Well, the colour white was the background on the Broncos original logo - But I understand your point.

I don't think gold would work very well - I like white because it's a 'clean' colour, but I know it doesn't have a great deal of relevance to the club's history - btw I do like the Blue and gold on the away jersey, that's a nice nod to Brisbane's history.

But yeah - white - I don't know. Old Broncos jerseys had a fair deal of gold/yellow on them - but maybe the club feared a colour clash or some form of aesthetic issue. Maroon, Gold and White were the Broncos original colours, so maybe the club simply figured 'pick one' and white worked best.

I would've felt dirty had we lifted the trophy in a grey coloured jersey tbh... grey has little/nothing to do with our heritage - it's a colour I'm glad they dumped from the jersey in the early part of the decade. How you guys felt about lifting the trophy (apart from the obvious euphoria) in a jersey that doesn't really tie back to your club... I dunno, just irks me.

Doesn't irk me at all. Remember the colour White was one of the three original colours of the Broncos, along with Gold and Maroon. Furthermore the Super League jersey of Brisbane was predominately White, as (from memory) was the 2000 jersey - so from that period on White has been slowing increasing it's presence on the Broncos jersey.

Couple a White jersey with Blue Shorts and Blue and Gold Trim, and it doesn't irk me either. Blue and Gold are Brisbane's Offical colours, so it's not as if the colour blue was plucked out of thin air - it has meaning, though not exclusively to the Broncos club. Therefore as a strickly 'alternative' jersey, I think it maintains a 'clean' look while respecting the history of both the Broncos and Brisbane in general.

However, was I happy that the 'alternative' jersey graced the nation on GF night? No bloody way, a terrible decision from the NRL. Even though the Maroon in the Broncos home jersey is rather dark - it in no way appeared to constitute a 'clash' with Melbourne's strip. It took away from a moment I feel would have been better served had the Broncos more iconic colours been on display.

Absolutely... as far as I can tell the only two clubs whose jerseys would clash THAT much would be either Dogs home & Saints home (due to the predominance of white) and Souths & Canberra (and now maybe Cronulla and Gold Coast)... and TBH the only combo out of that lot likely to EVER be in another GF is Canterbury/Saints :)

Going by Brisbane Broncos: The Team to Beat by Jack Gallaway, the main colours of the club are maroon and white - the Bulimba Cup colours. Gold was added so that it wouldnt clash with Manly, and to represent the qld sunshine.

Royal Blue was added to the current jersey in 2002 to complement the Ergon sponsorship so that it would blend in with the jersey more. Also as Le Kook said, Blue, Gold and White are the official colours of Brisbane. I'm lost to explain where they got the navy blue from. Ideally IMO the current away jersey would be white with maroon where the navy blue is, with the number being gold with a maroon border.

Here you go Dodger... remember this jersey?

Note the white... a minor colour, but still there. Also, the Superleague jersey:

Then there's the notorious early-to-mid-90's "diamonds" jersey, which had a white background (sadly don't have a pic of that one)

Oh, and even the jersey they wore in the 2000 grand final had white (two white bars seperating the maroon top half from the gold bottom half.

I think that's been well established. My biggest qualm was the Grand Final. Have fun getting your jollies from being right though.... even if it is after the fact ;-)

Is the highlighted passage simply the author's opinion or is it an 'official' response from the Broncos club?

If you take a look at the 'Alternative' Broncos jersey, you can see that the Navy Blue and Gold are placed together on the strip - this is a clear acknowledgment of Brisbane's Official Colours. I understand that this strip was only created in 2004, but I cannot possibly believe that any Blue that was added to the Broncos jersey before this time was done so with any other agenda in mind......
