Some of you really just don't get it do ya. It's like you don't want the league to at least have a reasonable image, it's not about you, it's about the mums, dads, kids, general public..it's what they think, and they don't need a beatup in the media to think like that.

Look at the NFL - one of the most successful sporting competitions in the world. They have plenty of players playing for them that have been convicted for assault, sexual offenses, etc. Look at Mike Tyson. Look at other sports. No other sport carries on like the NRL does.

Look at the AFL - whenever their players are charged with anything - glassing their partner, assault, etc. the AFL comes out and says "Nothing to do with us". The NRL come out with their moral outrage having press conferences and press releases, guaranteeing massive media attention.

i'm all for a discussion on how it will affect the image of the game in Australia, NZ and England but....Switzerland?! they probably think it's rugby union.

most people in the world don't even know there IS a different rugby code.

i wanna amend this to include the Pacific Islands because they are a crucial part of the current game, as well as future development.

this whole scandal is epically unfortunate for everyone involved. i hate seeing the game i love being put through the ringer AGAIN.

I'm with R69 and others. I can't believe some people are treating him harsher than how they would treat the wife-beaters, the druggos and the alleged rapists. I can understand more attention and 'interest' - because what he did was f**king weird and highly, highly disturbing but as far as damage done to the victims for scandals it doesn't rank as high as beating up women and numerous other scandals we've been through for me.

No normal parent would stop watching the sport or stop their kids from watching the sport because of this. Notice I said normal parent. Soccer is already the most played sport by kids, and it won't change a normal parents decision on allowing their kids to play League or not.

I should clarify - I was talking about the actual 'event' in my last post. While I personally don't think it was our worst scandal, I believe it will be our worst as far as damage to the game's image goes.

If there were dogs licking players c**ks on Friday night football, I'd say there was a fair chance that parents wouldnt want their kids watching.

Actually with FNF the late kick offs are enough to stop kids watching anyway.

BUT - I doubt if this incident will actually stop anyone tuning in to watch a game in March 2011. By then, Monaghan will not be playing for anyone and no one else will mention it.

Unless you think that Vossy, Gus and Andrew Johns are going to be giving us all a blow by blow account in 5 months time. Errr so to speak.

Wow.... What a backward thinking philosophy on promoting this game. People want to make it an international game. Judging by the countless threads on international expansion and improvement you do. Of course it f**king matters what other countries think of the code. People want more money coming into the code. Yet the first image sponsors and new fans get of this code is one of the games best players with his genitalia in a dogs mouth. It's entirely negative publicity in multiple countries. There are no positives from this. None. And the more incidents that occur the more likely this code won't expand into big markets such as Asia and Europe.

I don't agree. Parents wont let their kids play football. Wayne Rooney shags grandmas and most of the other are coke snorting, wife beaters.

Sif anyone would let their kids watch or play a sport where some professionals are less than angelic. It would never happen. Never. The game of football doesn't exist.

mate, please. people making threads on an internet forum doesn't mean much. no one IN rugby league has illusions of making it a popular sport in places like Switzerland.

first things first, we should be able to have a Four Nations where more than 2 teams are actual contenders. that's what international development is focused on right now (or should be).
