In breaking news, the NRL has confirmed that ARLC boss John Grant will stand down at the end of the year. Read the full statement below.

NRL Official Statement
ARLC Chairman John Grant announces he will not seek reappointment

Australian Rugby League Chairman John Grant today announced he will not stand for reappointment as a Commissioner at the end of his current term in February 2018.

Mr Grant was appointed as the inaugural Chairman of the Commission in February 2012 and will have completed his second term when he steps down.

“For some weeks I have deliberated on the changing face of the Commission post constitutional reform should that occur this year and the need for a succession plan for the role of Chairman,” Mr Grant said.

“All well run organisations need time to properly plan for the future and my decision, at this time, assists this.

“In the months between now and February there is a lot to be done and I look forward to continuing to lead the game as Chairman and applying all my energy to dealing with the many opportunities and challenges that are before us.”

Can't say his 2 terms have been remembered for anything positive. Obviously certain clubs getting their way.

Independent commission my arse if the clubs win.

He's got nothing to lose so it's time to ruffle some feathers.

So the clubs and News Limited journalists strike again. Continuing to hold onto what power they have and keeping the game back.

Who cares who the next Commissioner is - more of the same on the way.

ARLC to do list:
* Call Demetriou - RE: availability
* New Brooms
* Direct lines installed to Dib and Politis
* Simply The Best - passé? Call Hoodoo Gurus.
* Perth on back burner.
* Delegate crowd issue.

lol, who's the next candidate on "who will the NRL eat up and shit out next?"
HE HAS BEEN THEIR for 6 years. Time for new blood or do want another 6 years which equals 12 years. You know people north of somewhere want it. John Grant for life, maybe he can move to Sydney (as once promised) with the MEGA MILLION SALARY GRANT GOT.
Smoke em if got them

Bernie Gurr is wasted at Para.

Bernie has some power at Parra and he has a good reputation. Why would he or anyone put their hand up for the NRL commission where they will have limited power and will likely leave with their reputation in taters after the clubs and News limited campaign repeatedly for their removal due to not giving what they want.
Expect a low grade appointment.

I hope that in all of this that junior development gets the money it should to secure the games future.
I have a horrible feeling that the clubs will suck up most of the money for players wages leaving little for junior development

I know the NRL are 16 clubs that bring in the money BUT...FMD if there aren't 1000s of small grass roots clubs and state league teams etc that need to be funded, nurtured and cared for.

These NRL clubs hoover up all the talent and fritter away their $$$.

Only one club owns its own ground. I couldn't begin to know what assets clubs do or don't have but the reliance on ARLC hand outs and Govt hand outs is galling.

The game as a whole needs to invest in kids, juniors, men and women, fans and customers of the game. If they don't, in ten years, we're like RU is now.

My point is moreso, it doesn't matter who you get in next, expect more of the same.

Clubs and players have a vested interest in holding the game to ransom, if whoever the next body through the door doesn't dance the way clubs want them to, they will suffer the same fate.

I don't think the players give a shit about the future, they just want it all now. They aren't worried about the financial state of the game in 10 years because most will be retired and counting their money.
