The immortals is just a concept owned by RLW at the end of the day, it's just their opinion on who they think are the greatest no different to anyone else's opinion on this thread really. I think so far they've done a decent job with who they've picked so far but if they start letting to many players from the same era 'into the club' then it'll lose some of its appeal. Hopefully in 10 years lockyer is admitted, then its another 10 year wait for another.
Is the an Australian rugby league hall of fame? I know their has been attempts to get it off the ground before but I haven't heard anything about it in years. What a great event they can turn that into every year, with 5 players added every year or something along them lines

A label handed down by a magazine with no official status tied to it. Some people put too much emphasis on that Immortals concept

It's amazing how much people put into these awards, like when johns was picked over Meninga Queenslanders took offence or when hayne was joint winner of the dally m last year with Thurston Queenslanders again took offence. These awards are just opinions at the end of the day and doesn't take anything away from the players that missed out.

It would be nice if there actually was a hall 100 metres long with space for an elite player every metre on either side. Take the family and spend a day reading the exploits of each listed underneath. By now there would still be few metres left before an extension is needed . . . instead after 100 years we have the immortals on the shithouse wall, RLW to wipe your arse with, 5 minutes and a good fart it's all over

Johns' rushed Immortal status is a symptom of a outdated publication trying to remain relevant in the modern world.

Definitely.

Norm Provan (& half a dozen others) should have gone it before him.

But a lot of people wouldn't even know who Norm is, & Johns is the one that would get the most RLW sales.

The thing that counts against Provan being an immortal is that 3 of his team mates have already been included before him. Immortals are the once in a generation players, and whenever the great dragons side gets brought up the players that all the old folks rave about are raper and gasnier

Your average footy fan would have f**k all idea who Provan is, he has missed it 3 times, he should of been in but if he didn't make in 81 than he was never going too.

So the Immortal status is limited to only a certain number of players per team?

The guy on the premiership trophy gets more press coverage than Beau Ryan come finals time. Shit there is hardly a Dragons game played whereby his name isn't mentioned.

But Yeh if some alcoholic media hacks don't decree you good enough, than f**k it you aren't!

The Immortals concept is silly because it excludes pre-War players.

Players like Clive Churchill, Dave Brown, Vic Hey, Duncan Thompson, Frank Burge and Dally Messenger - just to name a few - deserve to have their names revered every bit as much as any modern day great.

And so I too think the Immortals concept is not only flawed, but thrives to the detriment of a respectable and high profile HoF.

If it is picked by alcoholic media f**ks why are you here whinging about it? disregard it and move on.

Did you even see him play? You are just using anything to bag Johns because its pretty obvious your boy JT falls well short of catching Joey in both ability and achievements. Trying to discredit his premierships and now his immortal status lol.

Not only limited to one per team, but 1 player per generation. That player has to be unanimously agreed to be the best player of his time. Raper and Gasnier are a special case because the were both standouts in a dominant team and probably can't be split. Langlands had success in the era after they retired so that's why he was included.
many great players aren't immortals, a hall of fame concept should be given more attention

Right so can you point me in the direction of where this criteria is set? Other than pulled out of your arse?

Read rugby league week, it's their award not mine

Yeh this 1 player per generation criteria seems to be completely made up from your mind though.

Are you truly claiming that if two players equal of Andrew Johns or Reg Gasnier's status happened to play in the same "generation" both wouldn't make it??

Bullshit.

Mentioning them in the same breath is ridiculous. Thurston is not a top tier all time great until he leads a team to a premiership. If you are a halves player and you have never won a premiership as a starter you are not an all time great.

In the last 20 years Joey, Lockyer (see, this isn't an anti QLD rant), Ricky are all ahead of him.

There's 8 immortals but there's only two men on the trophy.

If I had to pick which one I'd want to be on, it'd be the trophy.

RLW have already set the precedence that they will induct players that have never won a top flight premiership ie wally lewis.
