Yeh this 1 player per generation criteria seems to be completely made up from your mind though.

Are you truly claiming that if two players equal of Andrew Johns or Reg Gasnier's status happened to play in the same "generation" both wouldn't make it??

Bullshit.

In my opinion, No they wouldn't. They'd have to be undoubtly the best of the time. Many would disagree with me but that's the way ibsee it

Guess what?

You wouldn't be trusted with picking a scab from the pollop on your arse let alone the Immortals.

So your opinion counts for shit.

I'm surprised how many people have to read RLW or any League publication, I might have glanced at one in a waiting room but I can't remember . . . do they come in old and new testament. It's a pity Artie wasn't really immortal, no-one who understands social media will ever remember him belting the Poms

That's definitely true, if anyone genuinely agrees with everything I say they should be comitted to an asylum. The end of the day these forums are just a bit of fun and no one's really right or wrong, if anyone truly wanted our oponions we'd all have jobs in the nrl system

Bullshit.

The alternative is letting any great player become an 'immortal' for example in 20 years the immortals would look like churchill, raper, gasnier, Langlands, Fulton, beetson, lewis, johns, lockyer, thurston, smith, slater, cronk, inglis, gallen, burgess, sbw.
It'd dilute the concept to much and it would lose the credibility it has

I don't agree with the 'once in a generation' sentiment, but I see what you are saying re: St George players.

If there was only, say, 1 Dragon there, I've little doubt he'd be named one. 4 seems flooded, and they'd be going for variety.

What's the bet Provan gets named an Immortal after he died. Those heart string pulls will get great sales.

it's funny that RLW is criticised for having it's name behind the award when the voting panel is predominantly made of experts that have nothing to do with RLW.

eg the existing alive immortals, wayne bennett, john grant, dave middleton, roy masters, ray warren....

of the 18 votes, only 6 are rlw associated, and of those most of them are well respected authors in not just league but australian sport in general who have nought to do with RLW these days eg. ian heads, norm tasker and geoff prenter, only 2 panelists actively do work with RLW today mitch dale the current editor and lenehan his predecessor

The Immortals concept is silly because it excludes pre-War players.

Players like Clive Churchill, Dave Brown, Vic Hey, Duncan Thompson, Frank Burge and Dally Messenger - just to name a few - deserve to have their names revered every bit as much as any modern day great.

And so I too think the Immortals concept is not only flawed, but thrives to the detriment of a respectable and high profile HoF.

Clive Churchill wasn't a pre war player and is an immortal.

i don't believe that's a criteria, the actual criteria is that the panelists will only vote for players they've actually seen play. churchill was one of the original inductions voted in by hyde, bath and goodman.

nothing stops provan from getting inducted next time round, it's just that there will be less panelists next time round that saw him run around.

They are called post war immortals so guys like Dave Brown is ineligible. Churchill is an immortal.

Johns was not too soon, compare him to other inductees.

Does Rabs really vote on who gets in? That will f**king do me

why?

Love him or hate him, Rabs has probably watched more football games that you or I have had hot meals. Guys like him are ideal selection members because they've been around the game for so long and seen the players entire careers play out in front of him every week and still he has no ties and bias towards any of them personally. He's not their ex-coach, he doesn't go for their team have a vested interest in their success, he just sees. If you ask me, that's the best kind of judge available for an Immortal

Can't believe Menninga isn't in before John's tbh. I'd also have to question the fact John's admitted to taking recreational drugs to help him cope with the game day pressure. Some might argue that there is an element of performance enhancement through illicit drug use in all of that.

He hasn't watched a game he hasn't called in 20 years and can't tell who's who when he is calling games

I wouldn't say 20 years. He started slipping 10 years ago and became abysmal about 5 years back but in the judgement of an entire career he has been great for the vast at majority and would have a very respectable opinion on the calibre of immortals

Moron. By that logic any legal drugs used to help mental health issues are performance enhancing drugs.

Recreational drugs helped him relax in the way a beer or a smoke helped players in Meninga's day.

I never said anything about the criteria. I was clearly correcting an error.
