Biggest flaw in this suggestion ( Ravalawa to Centre ) is that the coach couldn't improve a guy who's been playing centre most of his career. How is he going to transition someone into that position ?.

Ravalawa is still raw in terms of first team footy smarts..has an error or 2 in him...

I'd by playing either Lomax @ centre ( yes I know he has been promised fullback ) or hopefully a younger guy transitions so we can move both aitken and Lafai on....
The two obstacles that are present here are:
  • The coach's ability to teach/train the player.
  • The player's ability to learn and put into practice.
The applicable changes in 2020 are:
  • Flanagan is a proven first grade coach with the ability to improve young players.
  • Ravalawa is an international centre who needs instruction and the chance to put that advice into practice/performance on the field.
We have the pre-season to experiment and come up with a winning formula. Let's use this period wisely rather than just repeat things that have not worked over the past few years. I have no doubt that Ravalawa with the right coaching would become a very robust and skilful right centre.

What has Rav done to convince you and others on here he is a centre or international centre as you put it. What he played centre against Lebanon half way during the year. I noticed he did not get picked at centre in the recent tests they won?...was he injured?...they won convincingly without him
What have you and others seen from him at NRL level as a winger and his defensive liabilities to just automatically throw hin in there to slot straight into centre at NRL level. And you bag Millward?....

I'd say there is far more "concrete" evidence in how shit our current centres are...

Exactly- we need to experiment and play around with combinations in whatever trials/pre-season games are available to us including the Charity Shield to improve our centre play. Ravalawa is potentially a devastating attacking weapon but I am still a fan of Pereira as well assuming he hasn't lost his confidence after that horrific landing and near spinal injury. In fact, if anything, that injury may well have finished his career as a winger and he may need to concentrate on being a hard running, low to the ground centre.

I agree Rav has shown me nothing except he has hands like feet & is very suspect under the high ball. He needs to spend time in the CC’s along with Lafai to see if he is a FG footballer which he is not at the moment IMO.

Millward has put us in such a bad situation with regards to the SGI salary cap that. We have very little opportunity to improve our weakest link; the back 5 so it seems for 2020 it will be a matter of doing the best we can with largely the players we currently have.

Lomax to fullback seems a good move to me considering the current situation. Other candidates, Dufty and Sailor in my opinion are too small for the fullback position.

Saab is a good young prospect with size and speed so in our current situation, it seems he is a good choice for the right wing first up. As for the left wing, I just hope the best performing winger during the off-season is selected to the left wing.

In the back 5 our worst performing positions are our centre pairing. Given that we do not have great depth in the centres at this time, I feel that we need to test a couple of likely players for selection in the centres during the off-season. Let's see how 3 Ravalawa and 4 Sailor scrub up as our centre pairing for 2020.

Why the hell did they bother signing him. He hardly got a real shot and fell out of favour badly at the end.

If Williame is a straight swap for Pearson- and I know Williame's recruitment is yet to be confirmed- I am not sure we have recruited wisely-at least on the character front. Just saw his Facebook page which was full of foul mouthed violent language (RCG was the main target for some reason- probably an Islander rivalry thing).

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Boring....The Reason we have the weakest back 5 is the coach.....McGregor choose the centres and continued to pick them...not millward..IMHO Lomax is our strongest centre...but coach didn't pick him because he loves Aitken and Lafai...Hopefully all 3 will be gone soon enough...But carry on with your nonsense...have a Good Day possm....

P.S Stay inside... the fumes may be affecting your thought processes. LOL

DRAGON FLIES TO TITANS?

The Courier-Mail reports Gold Coast are set to sign St George Illawarra winger Jonus Pearson on a two-year deal in an immediate switch.

Pearson joined the Dragons on a two-year deal ahead of the 2019 season, but will reportedly get an early release.

The Titans are looking to bolster their outside back stocks and still have five spots on their roster to fill.

Parramatta winger Josh Hoffman has also been linked with a move back to the Titans.

The Dragons have been reportedly in talks with Catalans and former Manly flyer Brayden Wiliame.

Where have I had all that before. :D
Mary being our coach for this long has put us in the bad situation we are in in regards to what players we have in our top squad and who we can or cant attract.
You can blame whoever you want for that situation we find ourselves in.
I dont like your centre selection one bit...but hey freedom of speech and all that.

RAVI will have a BREAK out season !! hes a monster and a machine and ALL he needs to do is be coached in defence...too easy...and learn to catch! even Slater dropped balls at the beggining of his career, I cant wait to see RAVALAWA UNLEASHED!!!

my team for round 1

Lomax
Saab
Sailor
RAVALAWA
Periera
Normy
Hunt
Love your optimism but consider this.
We have a world class, representative centre as our coach and yet we have the worse centre pairing in the comp and have had for some time.
We are all still waiting for Aitkin to have a "Break out season" which has never eventuated in spite of all the hype and carry on.
Who exactly is going to turn Ravalawa into a top grade centre and sort out his defensive shortcomings?
McGregor?
He couldn't do it for Aitkin.

Well, for starters, most of us agree that the world class representative centre is a world class representative coaching dope and so we have hired everyone but the Almighty to smother over his deficiencies- Flanagan or Shepherd could well be the coach that unleashes the Rav 4.
