Not impressed with schoolboys who (through managers or themselves) make demands on money, without having the desire to prove themselves and the confidence that the rewards will later flow.

Stay in Wellington for mine now kid

Everyone here raises some good points. Davis had three of his team mates sign up with the Bulldogs and I bet ya a million bucks they would of just signed up for an opurtunity to play and get better as the Bulldogs don't offer that much money to young guys. They tell them if your good enough we will take care of you on and off the field. We on the other hand have to pay a hefty amount to attract just one kid. It doesn't make sense does it??

You can bet its his manager is doing all the talking as he must make as much money for the HIMSELF and the kid. Also Josh needs to realise that you have to prove yourself 1st and then you can earn the big cash.

Saying all that I hope we do get him, He sounds like a star in the making.

I must admit I didn't read the story too closely, whats he after? $60K?

Offer it to him if you want a decent chance of securing a representative centre for the long term. Don't waste your time on Leulaui, go for Davis all the way. Another Junior Kiwis centre who you would have seen in Jersey Flegg this year is Soliola from the Roosters, Davis has even better junior rep pedigree than him.

Someone mentioned the Warriors, here's hoping they do open their eyes, realise he's still on the market and pick him up. He's a good kid.

especially since they are chasing a centre

Its lovely isn't it....give em a scholarship to do nothing but live a fun life - then they demand it all from you....no middle ground - give me what I want or bye bye.....kids these days

Scholarships are like schoolies week, when alls said and done you eventually forget about it. How many players have the Warriors for instance had on scholarship end up elsewhere? Marcus Perenara himself is one.

He's after what, $40 to $60K, he's got to relocate country, find new accomodation, live in a lifestyle he has little idea about, its not an easy thing to do.

He's about to be an adult, in a foreign country, new lifestyle, new accomodation, and he's holding out for a little more cash that his manager believes he's worth on the market - he's not the first schoolboy to do that bartman. You'll find players in all squads who when having attracted attention from multiple clubs apply pressure for a better deal. C'mon, most people in this forum have negotiated salaries in their workplace.

Let those who haven't tried to negotiate a better income cast the first stone.

I beleive that it depends on what his demands are

if it's only a case that Parra are offering him say 40-50k and he wants 80-100k then give it to him but if Parra's offer is 80k and he is wanting 150k then I can see why Parramatta wouldn't be wanting to sign him.

He could well play 1st grade next year based on reports and will at least play reggies.

Yes, he does have to prove himself but there are players on more then 100k who also still need to prove themselves.

and as has been said he will be forced to move to a new country at just 17 so there will be added expenses for that.

Maybe rather then paying him extra salary if Parra just pay his relocation costs and then keep it at the original offer then the manger & Davis might go along with it.

It may not be the same case but I remembver reading stories about Hindmarsh wanting a load of money or he might walk out and then about 2 weeks later him signing for 4 years.

Don't beleive everything you read.

He's after $40-$60K according to Peter Mellars. You are very very right I would imagine if Parramatta aim up and help him with relocation and initial accomodation costs.

Its definately a cash thing as Parra offer all there Juniors ( Out of Town ones) such as Tim Smith, Brett Anderson, Jack and Wellar Hauraki with Free accomodation. They stay with families and with other players untill these guys get old enough to stand on there own 2 feet and then they move into Parra Eels owned apartments in Parramatta.

i doubt it has anything to do with relocation costs or anything like that. as if parramatta, and every other club for that matter, wouldn't be providing a 'service' to assist in cases like these. i imagine he would be very well looked after!

As Jake said, he'll have few relocation/living costs, I have no doubt that would be paid for....as for a foreign country and lifestyle - sheez, there's more kiwis in Australia than NZ these days

$40K I think is fair enough...but $60K is half as much again....its a decent salary for someone with alot to prove.....I hope they can sort it all out cos we need some depth in the centres....but his/his manager's attitude seems a bit worrying - last thing we need is another Dykes who just comes for the $$$s and wants to be elsewhere.

I hope he sticks with us, He could very well be the solving issue with the centres. Pay him what he wants and get him over here for off-season training.

If only it could be that easy! I suggest we all hang out and see what happens, because we've got no choice.

Talks have apparently been finalised and it is extremely doubtful that he will join the club next season.
