Alot of talented youngsters suffer from that "Second Year Syndrome", well not Dugan. The kid is building and building confidence and looks more at home in first grade after each game. I actually doubt he will crumble but cement his position as one of the NRL's premier players.
Dugan is a far better defender then Hayne, Dugan's positional play in defence is only 2nd to Billy Slater in the NRL.
Dugan is also far more dangerous in general play. You don't see Hayne making breaks in the centre of the field too much at least this season. You'd almost be sure that you see Dugan make a long run or a break every match or two. There is very little in his game at the moment you can fault.
Hayne reminds me of John Sutton, to the point where he is having an extremely hot and cold season, Hayne can be masterful but at times he is rubbish and has very limited impact on a game and when he doesn't play well, his defensive flaws come out of the closet, Hayne is probably one of the worst positonal players in defence in the competition and his tackling lacks something to be desired also.
I can barely fault Josh Dugan's game atm. Dugan's positional play is only 2nd to Slater and his defence is veteran like. I believe generally Dugan is also far more dangerous in general play and more agile, Dugan leads the tackle breaks in the NRL out of any player.
Jarryd Hayne's career has been patchy to say the least, and 2010 takes it to another rollercoaster ride.
Josh Dugan had a sublime rookie season which should of landed him Rookie of the Year, So many talented youngsters fail in their 2nd season of nrl, known as the dreaded "Second Year Syndrome", well None of that for Josh and in fact i can see Dugan building in confidence after every match he plays and I can't see his progression take a turn towards the negative, he is only gunna get stronger and faster and become one of the premier players in the NRL.
While you never know what you are going to get from Hayne's growth curve from his 2006 debut season to present.
