Hands is really only a back up at this stage of his career, certainly not a genuine option for 80 minutes.

I remember alot of people on here said Mahoney was never going to be a first grade hooker. Hands in his 5 games so far has shown he can handle the defence in first grade.

We just have to hope the coaches let him run the ball more and his backing up gets better.

People just expected him to be injured and unavailable which would be a massive upgrade on this.
Yea it’s a shame he didn’t get hit high / late / crushered / cannon balled / chicken winged or hip dropped. We would have got a penalty plus the bonus of an injured Hodgson not being available.

I thought hodgson might offer something this year - was really mostly worried about another injury.

But f**k me he is soooo slow.

We need to convince him to not take his option next year. Maybe its within the rules to offer him a job if he doesnt take the option - cos unlike other cases he is not actually contracted and getting out early.

If he wont opt out, we need to make him train with beau scott.

I was sceptical with his signing. He was showing decline at Canberra in 2021. That was easy to see. Then does his knee and misses all of 2022.
I thought if he was fit he would be solid however. The worse issue was staying on the field injury free and age. For those reasons I wouldn't of signed him. But 3 x knee recos aren't easy to get back from.

Hodgson won't be here next season. The question is more how much he will want from us to leave.

On a possitive a month in NSW CUP may help him. Rnd 1 he did play well. The fact he isninly getting 30mins but says to me BA knows he is dine.

Hands may be a genuine 80 minute hooker option one day, but I don't think that will be for at least two season. His only place is one of two hookers in a 17 until then.

Just like 2018 I think this season is over so why not let Hands find his feet 😂 in first grade.

If we go and sign a hooker it will be rinse and repeat as they will take a year to adjust to BAs plan.

Surely an option clause would read something like this: "provided that the player is not argued on League Unlimited to be the worst signing in Eels history (or even defended by Pou against that charge) then the player has the option to exercise an extension of his contract for one (1) year at the same consideration."

I like this idea.

Hop could be our 2023 piggy riddell.

start hopgood at nine just for the openning exchanges and bring hands on for 60 mins. Hand Brendon the tape of how nathan peats used to play and that can be his model for this season. Simple ball distribution and being a leader in defense.

Hopgood couldn’t be any worse that Brandon Smith at dummyhalf. He actually plays similar.

Without RCG, we'll now need Hopgood to play much more minutes as a middle forward. I suspect both Hopgood and Matterson will be playing 70 minutes as middle forwards, and Junior at least 60. That's 40 minutes for two other non-NRL standard players.
im sure grieg and maka can cover those mins.

hodsgon is so detrimental to this teams performance it wouldnt matter who you have at prop atm

Yep agree here.

If I was the NSW cup coach I would be telling all players if you want an NRL spot now is your time to stand up. (I doubt our staff have this ability) .

Asi or JA could be an option 14.
Or
Moretti Rodwell Makatoa Keir Ogden with Hopgood going to hooker for 20.
