New Bulldogs director George Kanaan should fit in just fine

by Joe Aston

It's rare we delve into the scungy world of rugby league (AKA rapeball), but the internecine warfare at the top of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs is just too good!

For those (like us) who wouldn't ordinarily care, here's the elevator version: after Lynne Anderson was swept in on a pro-reform ticket at the footy club's elections last month, the Canterbury Leagues Club president George Peponis (ally of Ray Dib, whom Anderson rolled) appointed two new independent directors by decree, increasing the board's size from seven to nine. As the Bulldogs are constitutionally entitled to four spots, this had the effect of potentially leaving the footy club outnumbered by sworn enemies at the helm of its golden goose pokies palace.

During voting at Canterbury Leagues on Saturday, there was a physical altercation between Dib and Anderson ally Gary McIntyre.

Hilariously, for a pitched battle threatening to erupt into violence, one of Peponis' new independent directors is none other than UBS institutional equities boss George "Foreman" Kanaan, who famously brawled on the trading floor with fellow broker Mark Fitzgerald back in 2011. How apt that George sits atop Chifley Towers moving money around for rich clients while across town in Belmore the bikies are washing their cocaine money through the slots – not to mention the golden oldies dusting their pensions. And all to fund dopey meatheads careening face first into each other on live television. Ah, it's the circle of life!

Though don't expect the forthright trader to entertain too many of said clients at the Marina Bay Sands of Sydney's southwest. We can't really see Paul Xiradis or John Sevior going for the sweet 'n' sour pork at The Dynasty Chinese, even if James Halliday recently voted its cellar the best in the category of wine not served in bottles.

A proud westie, Kanaan attended Sir Joseph Banks High School in Revesby. He is believed to have been dux by virtue of being the only student to complete year 12. With that pedigree, and with all that fire and fury at his disposal, who could be more suited to the job? All he needs now, to blend seamlessly into the carpark, is a Subaru WRX with fluffy dice.

I don’t think anyone has ever been alleged to have sexually assaulted a ball during a game.

I would be surprised if some of the people he's mentioned don't go after him.
He will need a good lawyer and plenty of money if they do
