The code published on the website doesn't have any breakdown under the Dangerous Contact section for the various types of that charge. I'm suggesting that there could be a special category for eye contact (given it's mentioned in the charge given to Young) that attracts a higher base penalty.

No skin in the game. The rest of Read's report says the NRL were satisfied the vision supported the charge, whereas they weren't satisifed with the one on McGuire.

Here's what Annesley said earlier today:

As for claims about inconsistency in the penalties handed to McGuire and Young, Annesley said each case had many variables, such as the clarity of camera angles, whether the player reacted to the contact or not, and whether he wanted to formally complain.

"So it's like trying to explain what constitutes a grade one high tackle with grade two or grade three … there will always be a difference of opinion about that and people will form their own views.

"But the match review committee takes their job very seriously and looks at past charges and gradings to try to get that consistency."

I haven't seen an angle on the Young one that's terribly damning but if the NRL say they have it - and they have access to more angles than I do - then that's what it is.

In the same article he indicates it'll be something they look at when they review the judiciary code at the end of the season but I don't know what changes you could make that would improve this particular situation.

Mcguire’s looked pretty clear on the vision and Munster definitely reacted.
If there was more damning evidence in the Young case, show it so people can see that he should have copped more than Mcguire.
I’d hate to think it’s true, but maybe the profile of the player, and the time of the year, had an impact on the punishments handed out.
