And of course the lack of a crackdown on cannonball tackles has now cost poor Liam Knight his season. Now I don't know if the NSW Cup uses the same charging system as the NRL, but the bloke who did it should buy a lottery ticket. 3 weeks for deliberately obliterating someone's knee is ludicrous.

The sad fact is though that we know the punishment in the NRL wouldn't be any worse. They've had chances all year to send a message, but cannonball tackles in the NRL have simply been met with fines. It's an absolute disgrace and needs to be stamped out of the game.

Two weeks with an early guilty plea for this is disgusting. Very lucky it was in reserve grade. Imagine that was Latrell/Radley/Ravalawa on someone like Yeo/Jurbo/Haas? There'd be calls for public execution

If Smith did call Gee a cheat, then a sin bin was remarkably soft. All previous times a player has called a referee a cheat on the field, they were immediately sent off for the remainder of the game.

As he has been referred, clearly Gee should have sent him off. Another example of refs failing to make the difficult decisions.

A lot okf that is because the media would then crucify the Referee for mking it into a non-contest as it would be 13 v 12 on field. It is because of that constant criticism over the decades by the media that many referees at NRL level are gun shy to send players off.

Kennedy was the one who sort of created the dangerous position but even then it was only cos Smith was jumping like a lunatic for some reason and Kennedy was around the torso trying to get him to ground.
