What is Annesley alluding to - that the players in the lower teams are dumb or thugs to give more penalties? Complete bias and stupid thing to say. Who on this forum can get the stats on penalty counts to check this out?

The problem with your team now is that you have ex Dragons players Jason Ryles and Brett Morris trying to help Trenty and I don't think thy are doing a good job of it. Your trenches appear to be much deeper nowadays.

I've tried to look at penalty counts previously but the count alone doesn't tell the story we see weekly across all games. I did it after the Warriors game at Kogarah last year when the Dragons were clearly penalised out of the contest and yet if I remember correctly, the end count (including six agains) was very close.

I put the task aside pretty quickly determining (obviously) that there's a massive difference between getting a six again from 50 metres out on tackle one or getting a penalty in the final 30 seconds of a half versus a six again on the fifth tackle or a penalty early in the half.

It would be great to come up with an actual measure for the benefit afforded by a penalty so one could then determine how much "help" a side was given. But I lost track of the project at the time and just never got back around to it.

Seemed kind of pointless when the slickest politicians in town all seem to work for the NRL anyway.

It would be a monumental task GS by the look of things in your post. Even David Middleton would find it hard to produce the stats. At least you gave it a try and maybe you might find the time to complete the project at another period of your life.

What I was wondering in my post was how each team stacked up with penalties awarded for and penalties awarded against all teams to see if what Annesley says has some merit.

I’m glad Rava was too tough to lie down & milk the penalty because we would have been worse off.

JWH is a despicable bully wanting always to cause harm rather than play in the right spirit of the game. Spitting is one of the lowest acts for anyone to do on anyone let alone spitting on the ground which we see a lot of in these games. It is a dog act for sure and should not be condoned under any circumstances. In fact in my opinion, the MRC should have picked this up and fined the bludger.

Am I wrong believing the JWH tackle was a hip drop?

To me when you look at the replay the damage to Sua's ankle was done before the second players Involvement

And to think McGuire got a lengthy suspension last year for no more than a boot lace tackle running down a storm player who had made a half break.

Obviously none of us are/were aware of the rule that says it's not a hip drop if you're in a roosters jersey.
