Mulheisen is 21 now so not sure what Dragons are waiting for?
.. because of Griffin's obsession with one of his Qlder mates. That is one of his faux pas but his biggest imo is his reluctance to give us some creativity in the halves. We badly need a playmaking 5/8. Moses is my choice but he now seems to have a mortgage on fullback so promote Tyrell Sloan and give him a crack in the playmaking role as Junior is not a 5/8 or a utility he is born three quarter.

Hook is a steady as she goes coach - not really keen to try too many things out of the ordinary and sticking to players that just hang in there to get us over the line. It seems to be working for him in the 3 recent wins we have had. How he can get us to win the bigger matches against the Storm and Panthers is the concern because with the other teams the steady way might work again, so whatever the result is on the game against the Storm this weekend will be a good gauge on what the future holds for the "type" of team he will go with in future.

He has used Amone in first grade in either the run on side or putting him on the bench more than the other young guns, so maybe he is giving him a bit more time to gain more experience which will bring on more confidence and become much better. Sullivan has been injured for a while so far this year and I think he will be used a fair bit in first grade, possibly on the bench, now that he is getting over his injuries. Sloan still a wait and see for the time being as Moses is doing enough for Hook to keep him in the full back spot.

Harry Grant won the rookie of the year playing for the Tigers in 2020 he was 22 Mulheisen is 21 now so not sure what Dragons are waiting for?
I haven’t seen enough of him & I’m sure others on here are in the same boat.
I seem to recall reading one of our posters on here who watch a lot of the lower grades saying they thought he was not ready for nrl.
It may have been Georgedragon who’s opinions are re juniors are normally close to the mark.

If it’s not Georgedragon I apologise.

Yeah you could be right Blacksafake, I think he said that young Mulheisen wasnt going to solve our problems at 9, mind you he looked pretty good on the weekend though.

I do find it interesting though that at other clubs, kids like Harry Grant, Reece Walsh, Sam Walker, etc seem to make the step-up ok. They have their missteps but overall, they are flourishing. And it's not just the glamour clubs hiding the deficiencies amidst a star-studded roster - the Warriors have a similarly frugal approach to the cap as the Dragons and yet Walsh is doing just fine.

So I'd be curious to get people's views: are our kids just not as good or is there some other issue that's preventing them from achieving the same success as others?

I think you are correct mate...i remember George posting that.

I just hope the club has one eye on next year because if we run out next year with McCullough as our dummy half we are screwed. McCullough is too old, he's too slow and brings nothing to the table as far as creativity goes.

The game has changed, and is continuing to change. His position is becoming more and more important. Good sides have a 9 who can take advantage of momentum gained when on attack. McCullough doesn't cut the mustard anymore...

IMO

Well if Mulheisen is not ready we need to throw everything at Reece Robson and see if he can break his contract for 2023, he is going pretty well at Cows.

A good point you make, to me I find our Juniors to be extremely talented, I also think that the particular coach at the time also has a perception about them as well, I remember Bennett saying put them in and let them flourish with confidence, whereas Hook thinks its best to have things sorted before they make the NRL.

Said before say it again they ain't winning anything this year or next , so give all the young guys , Sully, Sloan , Amone, game time ...... Mistakes will happen but dont drop them as has happened with Sloan then you don't see him again ...... Hook is in my opinion trying to save his backside by just making the 8 ...... Let the kids get the experience they need , not play guys that are close to retirement ..... Most other teams stick by the young guys and give them game time, not drop them after a bad game ..... Anyway thats my rant
for today ......

We need a Scott Drinkwater type of player somewhere on the field as well who can kick. Someone with a bit of dash around the play the ball area. When the Panthers are attacking, Koroisau passes the ball out quickly to a player he sees as a likely tackle breaker or to a speedy half or back. Cleary is quick and so is Luai - they don't have much hesitation in what they do and so the other players act on their speed.
sounds a lot like Sullivan to me.
