To be honest I don't see anyone leaving the Dragons anytime soon (or at least until Bennett finishes there), it seems to be all sunshine and lollypops down there at the moment. The team is succeeding, they're securing a good squad, the have the best coach/most successful coach in the league, why would you want to?
There is that but think about it for a moment. He turns 21 next year and will be too old for the NYC. They have re-signed or have contracted for next year Matt Prior, Jarrod Saffy, Weyman, Mickey Paea and Dan Hunt and look likely to hang on to Justin Poore. That is a lot of players to fit into 17 when you consider the likes of Justin Smith, Costigan, Creagh, Beau Scott and Dean Young as well.
That leaves Merrin with a harder road to first grade on a regular basis for two or three years at least. He either plays for Shellharbour or looks for an opportunity elsewhere.
They can't keep everyone and with 2010 likely to be a year that we re-group and rebuild than these are the sort of players we should target.
That is true, it could be a bit of a journey to first grade, but I'm thinking snice we secured the services of the two Mitchells it probably wont be a direction we're looking to go?
Allgood will be to old for NYC next year,
his signing is as a part of next seasons top squad..
as I've said on many, many occasions, 2 to 3 mid range signings may prove to be tonic we need to get this battered pack going.
I was told today that the club have given up on Poore and are looking at some good average first graders but are definitely not skirting the fact that there isn't going to be too much room to play with.
So how did they justify the money they were supposedly paying Poore? Another backended contract to cause more problems down the track?
Or were they hoping to sign him and then sort out the finer details later.
