There should be complete secrecy surrounding all of it IMO, including between clubs.
Clubs should table best offers and then player should select from that and be happy they are playing the game they luv for $$, they could have other jobs like the rest of us

I'm sick of people using use as leverage to get better deals, and vice-versa with our players using other clubs to do the same

Or Rugby. Blind Freddy could see Grothe was never going to join the Rah rahs.

I reckon rugby talk is the best way to get bigger offers, cause then the NRL chimes in

Gee there are some ordinary players on that list.........

Who?

OK, at the moment Cayless sucks. Burt is hit and miss.

But aside from Hauraki and Oake, who is so ordinary? Baumann, Robinson and Lewis haven't even played First Grade yet!

I think you just answered your own question, And if the 3 i just highlighted can't push a guy like Lowrie from first grade they can't be much chop either.

As far as Wenty goes I'd like to use the old adage "Out of sight, out of mind" in respect to their not being able to push out a player like Lowrie. N one of them have had the chance......

Most of those players would have had a shot at other clubs by now....

True, but they can't be setting the world on fire if Lowrie posistion looks pretty entrenched. Baumann can't make the starting side for Wenty ATM.

The Bennett effect: being a Dragon worth more than money

ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA'S re-signing of Brett Morris is expected to be quickly followed by the retention of NSW prop Justin Poore, who, like the winger, is believed to have accepted significantly less to remain a part of Wayne Bennett's Dragons.

Bennett seems to be recreating Brisbane, where he was able to hold on to his stars on comparatively cut-price wages. Morris yesterday agreed to terms with the Dragons on a three-year deal believed to be worth $220,000 a season, even though he could have earned up to $300,000 a season had he accepted offers from the Bulldogs or Roosters.

"Brett's a player in wonderful form at the moment, and I think he is only going to get better," Bennett said yesterday.

The re-signing of Poore on another three-year deal is expected to be announced after the front-rower plays his first Origin tomorrow night - and he will be knocking back even more than Morris in doing so. Poore has been offered upwards of $1.2 million by Parramatta and Cronulla, however, it is believed he has accepted a three-year deal worth less than $900,000 to be part of Bennett's boys. Poore told the Herald this week he would not confirm his future until after his Origin debut, and he gave an insight into Bennett's influence on him and his teammates when he said: "I've really enjoyed my footy this year. Training's been intense, but it's been fun."

Bennett's influence on the Dragons has extended to the Blues, too, remarkable given he is the revered former Queensland coach. He has been instrumental in turning Poore, Michael Weyman and Ben Creagh into representative players - given the task of powering through the Queensland pack tomorrow.

"We're just really enjoying everyone's company, everyone in the team," Weyman said. "When 17 blokes work hard for each other every week, it makes it really easy."

Another Queenslander might prove to be instrumental in helping the three Dragons bring down the Maroons. Wendell Sailor, who was touted as a Maroons prospect, has shifted his focus to offering tips to his teammates on how to stop the Queensland props Steve Price and Petero Civoniceva.

Far too much money when you consider players like Kade Snowden, Matt Scott, Matt White, Shackleton, Glenn Hall and some youngsters in Shane Blackett, Joseph Paulo and Trent Merrin are off contract. All would do the same jpb as Poore and you could sign two or three of them for the same money.

Loooks like the dragons called the managers bluff about being short changed. you really have to wonder if he ever was going to leave or he was just trying to get the best possible deal from the dragons.

yet we'll probably get an article in a couple of weeks saying we have no cash.

Undoubtedly...... it will be about the same time as most players like Myles, Shackleton and others all re-sign with their respective clubs or others.

Matt Scott is an absolute engine.

He consistently makes meters and is strong as an ox. Would love to snare him - no-frills metre maker who never backs down.

I'd look at him, "the Shack" and someone like Hall - we could snare all 3 for a total of 500k a season - which should leave us around 200k-250k to do something about either our playmaking or our outside back situation...
