Congrats to all the debutants. Awesome to see Glenn force his way into the starting back-row, that's a brilliant reward for such a good season.

Good side. Pretty much the same team I picked except I didnt have JWH and I had Matulino obviously. I had Lewis on the bench as I hadn't made my Inu replacement yet. Lewis is obviously the best man for that spot from the squad though. I had Luke starting and Fein on the bench. I left Sika out due to pretty much forgetting him lol....he's good to have in the side though.

Best possible side he could of picked from the squad, apart from JWH for Matulino which is baffling. Maybe Ben's carrying a niggle.

I have a hard time believing that 15 players who would have made the side are out

Even if you mean 24 man squad, that seems unlikely.

Sam Rapira
Manu Vatuvei
Scum Catai
Shaun Johnson
Lance Hohaia
Shaun Kenny Dowell
Frank Paul
Josh Hoffman
Krisnan Inu
Jerome Ropati
Matt Duffie
Sam Perrett
Greg Eastwood
Bronson Harrison

They're the blokes I'm aware of being unavailable. Most of those players would have made it. Probably out of that lot FPN would have been borderline, Eastwood and Harrison under threat to retain their places. The rest are good chances.

Hohaia, FPN, Inu, Ropo, Perrett, Eastwood and Harrison wouldn't have deserve their spots either way.

Still, a lot of handy players missing, still think NZ will be alright.

Only a few years ago, having all those players out would've meant NZ were no chance. Now, they have so much more depth, that they still can put a very competitive team on the paddock... Good stuff!

Time for a second NRL team in NZ?

Hohaia would have been in as a utility, his form at the back end of the year for the Warriors was fairly good TBH. Ropati had a good 2010, given the dearth of centres I dare say he'd have made it. Perrett would have been an automatic squad selection, no questions asked. He's always terrific for the Kiwis.

FPN shouldn't have got in (but he seems to be selected anyhow generally), Eastwood and Harrison had horrific years but they've been near certainties in the previous 2 or so years. I'm saying I wouldn't pick them but I reckon they're all decent chances to have been picked.

Hohaia would have had a hard time cracking into the side considering how well the halves and hooker positions are covered. His only hope would be fullback, but then again I could see that position being filled by Hoffman.

Ropo, Perrett or Inu may have had a chance but at full strength, you could only select one of them.

I wouldn't call Harrison or Eastwood automatic selections either, they've been rewarded for good form or selected due to depth. Kiwis are above that now and will be for a long time, hopefully.

Its a good sign IMO. I think 5-6 years ago nearly irrespective of form sometimes those blokes would have been automatic picks. I don't know what happened to Eastwood and Harrison this year, they were impressive for the Kiwis over the past couple of years - Eastwood seemed to have turned the tide moving into the front row, he was very effective there for the Kiwis.

AD, it goes without saying that I'm fairly vocal about a second New Zealand team. I would love to see a Wellington/Christchurch combo team, but I guess the massive devastation in Christchurch has put that on the back burner and put it on Wellington as the focal point for a second team. The bid is alive and well from the Orcas it just gets little to no press.

I think we will beat NZ here, but I don't think Sheens can get these players up for a special performance. We haven't seen an Australian side rip apart a side since the World Cup, against England and the year before that was the last time we destroyed New Zealand.

Eastwood struggled with injuries this season. I don't think he'll ever end up as great a player as he should be, but he'll still be handy.

Unsure about Harrison, but he was extremely ordinary this season. Probably in the Top 3 for most disappointing players.

I say this every kangaroos squad / team .... but for mine there is at least one player in there with 'dubious' national qualification who i predict will never wear a kangaroos jersey again...

I thought Creagh was pretty good that night, may have got a look in again if it wasn't for injury.
