Katich cut from contract list

And Bollinger way down at 25? Seriously - these muppets take the cake for idiocy.

How is it that the one group of people in Australia that have no idea about Australian cricket happen to be the national selectors?
They're had to be something unique about the guys to make them a distinctive choice...

Interesting!
Clarke played part in ending my Test career - Katich
Daniel Brettig
October 28, 2011

Simon Katich has suggested he will never be chosen for Australia so long as the team is led by Michael Clarke.

Katich has admitted that Clarke did indeed play a role in his removal from the list of Cricket Australia contracts, having previously denied the pair's colourful history had anything to do with the decision.

On the day CA unveiled John Inverarity as its new full-time national selector, replacing the former chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch, Katich made a century for New South Wales in a drawn Sheffield Shield match and said he took little joy in the appointment because Clarke would not countenance his recall to the team.

Katich's relationship with Clarke deteriorated after a dressing room stoush at the end of the 2009 SCG Test between Australia and South Africa, in which Katich grabbed the then vice-captain by the throat after an argument had developed over when the team song would be sung.

Though he previously denied any link between the incident and the end of his international career, Katich now revealed it had played a significant part.

"It's pleasing to hear but I think you don't have to be Einstein to figure out that it's not just the selectors that had a part in sending me on my way," Katich said. "I mean to be brutally honest obviously what happened in the dressing room here a few years ago didn't help my cause. And obviously the captain and coach are selectors.

"Just because he [Inverarity] is going to be chairman of selectors or whatever role it is I wouldn't have thought that'd make too much difference."

Asked whether or not he could ever expect to play for Australia while Clarke was captain, Katich replied: "I wouldn't have thought so. That's probably why I'm in this position in the first place."

Katich also had further harsh words for CA, saying he had still not even received a phone call from the governing body's Melbourne headquarters to discuss his removal or commiserate.

"No one from Cricket Australia has been in contact with me since," Katicih said. "I just think that no-one's been in touch since that happened, it's pretty disrespectful I think from my personal point of view. Given I've been contracted for 11 years, to not have any contact whatsoever that's pretty disappointing.

"As Chris Rogers said that's blatantly rude to be honest. It's just common courtesy to give someone a call back.

"I enjoy playing my cricket here, so that's why I'm still playing. A big part of that was I had a lot of support at the time when the axing happened so to have that support has spurred me on to keep playing.

"Hopefully some good will come out of my situation. I wasn't the only one to go through it, plenty of players have felt the same frustration."

Following his removal from the contracts list, Katich had delivered a considered but unbridled attack on the national selectors and CA, foreshadowing much of the changes that were imparted by the Argus review, including the appointment of Inverarity.

However at the time he denied his confrontation with Clarke had any bearing on the decision.

"I don't think that was an issue," Katich said at the time. "We had a professional relationship."

Clarke, presently leading the Australian ODI team in South Africa, had similarly denied any involvement in the decision to remove Katich.

"To say that I have anything to do with it is plain wrong," Clarke said in June. "And to bring up what happened - what was it, two years ago between Simon and I - is just as wrong.

"We sorted things out there and then and I have enjoyed playing my cricket with him in the time since and I am looking forward to playing more cricket with him in the future. There is no ongoing issue between us and there wasn't one from the moment we sorted things out that day."

That is one of the problems with having the captain in particular on the selection table.

I dont think this was neccessary from Katich tbh. I'm as angry as the next supporter at his ommision but taking swipes at this point just sees him come off as a bit of a whinger.

Dissapointed if it is true in Clarke though, i've been an advocate of him captaining (and think he's better than Punter) but shithouse if he let personal feelings get in the way of the team

How the f**k would Katich know what Clarke has or hasn't said that has affected his contract? It's bullshit. There were 4 selectors who made that decision and frankly if he is going to carry on like a little bitch then they might have got it right.

I've long be a Katich fan, but this whining has lost me. He's not the first, nor the most undeserving player ever to get dropped, but I can't think of any other who has had as long a tantrum. The guy has started the season with wickets and runs. Had he continued to perform he would have really put the acid on Inverarity to call him up if a slot opened up this summer. Now he's basically retired his ass. Just shut the f**k up and let your performances do the talking Katich because opening your mouth for another whinge is just pathetic.

Hope the whinging bastard enjoys State cricket, he's now wiped out any remaining chance of playing for Australia. Good riddance.

He still highlight issues with CA - still no communication over the 6 months (or so) since he was initially dumped is terrible.

I personally wish he'd stick to batting because I think he's going to churn out run after run this year (off to a reasonable start), make em look stupid that way.

Am I the only one that loves watching Katto absolutely give it to them?

The bloke has had a hard luck career and still achieved a shit load... I'd struggle to stomach a metro tosspot with his nose up in the air like Clarke getting it handed to him on a platter as well.

When Clarkes time comes and everyone is sick of the twittering and Binglelisms, I reckon they should pay Katich a once off fee to walk into the dressing room, grab him by the throat and throw him out on his arse.

Then appoint a Captain with some f**king chest hair.

Beads6 you beat me to the punchline!

Hooch is just another Clarke hater who has no appreciation for the finer points of the game.

Clarkey needs to continue to score runs but anyone who questions his credentials as captain is a cretan.

Chest hair or otherwise his captaincy is top shelf as recent results testify and ultimately history will judge him accordingly.

Thanks for the memories Kat.

Yeah this whinging has grown tiresome. He had his say when it all happened there's no need to drag it up again when we've just had a good tour of Sri Lanka and started off well in South Africa.

Just let it go Simon, I don't remember you whinging at all when you were unfairly dumped from the ODI team and the test team for the first time. You're not the only one to feel the axe of the selectors when you feel you don't deserve it just ask Michael Bevan or better yet ask Martin Love who didn't even reach half a dozen tests!

Australia's recent good form must be absolutely burning the Clarke haters

It's only going to get better aswell. Clarke is a thinking captain and as long as he recognises that #5 is his batting position I think all will be sweet. The stock of good, young quick bowlers is falling right in to his strength.

Still think our quicks are 2-3 years off tbh.

And would be much happier with
Kat
Hughes
Marsh/Ussie
Watson
Clarke
MHussey

as our top 6 but it's not going to change now (and I guess from that point of view Katich has nothing to lose at this point, it was pretty clear when he was cut he wasnt going to get another shot).

I'd prefer Katich there aswell but it is what it is and Marsh did his thing in Sri Lanka.

The quicks are definitely a while off hitting their straps but I think they'll give us glimpses and hold their own but the sooner Johnson is pissed off the better.

Katich to face CA hearing for Clarke comments

ESPNcricinfo staff

October 29, 2011

Simon Katich, the Australia batsman, will face a Cricket Australia (CA) hearing over the recent comments he made about Australia captain Michael Clarke having a hand in keeping him out of the national side. Katich was reported under the CA code of behaviour provisions covering detrimental public comment.

Details of the hearing will be released in the next few days, but arrangements will be similar to those of past instances of CA reports for detrimental public comment, including Matthew Hayden's 2008 criticism of Harbhajan Singh and Adam Gilchrist's query of Muttiah Muralitharan's bowling action in 2002. It is expected to be held in Melbourne and presided over by CA's senior code of conduct commissioner Gordon Lewis.

James Sutherland, the chief executive of CA, said he was surprised and disappointed with Katich's comments, especially considering that new full-time national selector John Inverarity had said the selection door was still open for him. Katich had said on Friday that he took little joy in Inverarity's appointment because Clarke would not countenance his recall to the team.

"CA emphatically refutes any suggestion that Michael Clarke influenced the independent selection panel's recommendations for the 2011-12 CA contract players' list, a list that did not include Katich," Sutherland said in a statement.

"The National Selection Panel made its recommendations based on its independent assessment of Australian cricket's player needs for the next 12 months and the suggestions made by Katich are completely erroneous, inappropriate and unfair to Clarke, the selectors and to CA.

"Without compromising my confidential understanding of the selectors' confidential thinking, I can state their recommendations were completely independent of outside influence. I was particularly disappointed at the comments yesterday after the discussions we had with Katich in mid-2011 on inappropriate public comments he had made then."

Sutherland said that CA had followed its normal process when someone is dropped in Katich's case. The process involves the chairman of selectors talking with the player, for the player's state association to be advised before a public announcement so it can provide support if needed, and a subsequent CA follow up. In Katich's case, this included a follow-up discussion with Michael Brown, according to the statement.

Katich is expected to dispute the view that his axing was dealt with adequately by CA, though he is understood to have engaged in two conversations with the then chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch at the time of his removal, followed by a lengthier dialogue with Brown.

Having led Australia to an ODI series win in South Africa, Clarke responded to Katich's words by saying they had been hurtful to the team's morale. Clarke said Katich's words would not help him get back into the team, and may also affect team morale.

"Look when Simon wasn't selected I wasn't a selector at the time," Clarke said. "Since becoming a selector I've made it clear in plenty of press conferences that I've done that the door's certainly not closed on anyone, but in saying that I don't think his comments are certainly helping him get back into this team at the moment.

"The team morale is such an important part of having success and it's been a great thing for the Australian team in both forms of the game of late. I think the team morale is outstanding and we're enjoying seeing a bit of success as well."
