not that 2 years in gaol isn't a worthy punishment for what he did (stomping a bloke's head), seems pretty at odds with the soft sentencing we normally have in NSW which sees people who bash someone to death receiving only a couple years more than that.

Perhaps this is a turning point for how the courts are going to deal with drunken violence from now on?

It'll be registered over the off-season. I guarantee.

But, shortly before this a bloke charged in the assault case (not the assault) in Bondi received bail, even though he was out on bail for a similar offence.

Weird.

Just hope his appeal fails and he has to serve his time , massive dickhead deserves every day of it.

Sad to see a talent like that go to waste...

But what he did deserved more IMO.... He's lucky he didn't kill the guy.

It's interesting as the Warriors gave him the boot in favour of Matagi... A bloke who has come back from a stint in prison but turned his life around.

It's interesting how there lives have intersected... Hopefully packer can turn his life around... Although I don't think RL will have a part in it anymore...

He should be...

I know James Tamou came pretty close to it for his drink driving charges...

Which is funny in itself considering he's such a True blue aussie...

I'd say his one year ban from the NRL is probably not as big a deal as this thread made out now.

So getting 1 year ban was justified and not some small market bias after all

seems the NRL knew more about the details than the paranoid people on the interwebs

hoepfully, but i'm now waiting for the kiwi agenda to rear its head (ozbash i'm looking at you). interesting that his legal team didnt even consider a custodial sentence a possibility...

agreed but the reality is under australia's pissweak judicial system this sentence is likely to be considered excessive/harsh and reduced under appeal.

Will Packer be deported back to NZ once his sentence is complete? could be the end of his career

theoretically he could be but i daresay there's plenty of other people who have served time still living here

Yet another Knight disgraces this great game.

I expect to see him signed by the Raiders as soon as he's out of jail. Signing other club's disgraced cast-offs seems to be the only way Canberra can recruit anybody these days.

Amongst all the piss jokes, I hadn't even considered the potential puns if a bloke named Packer went to prison.
