I am ok with Obi doing things how he sees fit. As a coach who made the 8 twice in his first two years, he has likely earned the right to see out his current deal. Now though, Gardner will see the 8 as a bare minimum. Especially with the major leap in conditioning we are about to hopefully see. WESTS has been very good to this club. I think we all forget how far we have come at times. Off seasons do that. Am
Excited for season 2022. I think we will go alright.

It was pretty clear that our attack was the main problem in 2021 and AOB mentioned it himself multiple times so I’m sure he’ll be sitting down with the coaching staff and working out the best plans moving forward. We wouldn’t have been able to do a full overhaul mid season but that’s what pre season is for.

I’ll be interested in seeing what our attack looks like a month into the competition. I’m not expecting a fluid attacking unit in round 1 but hopefully we at least get to see some structural & tactical changes in progress at that time.

The club has done lots of things right the last few years, but I’m worried about not getting someone in to fix the attack and instead relying on the current setup.

It’s all well and good for O’Brien to say that he didn’t have the full spine until late in the season, but it was clear in the first half of the season that we were playing a style of football that didn’t suit the new rules. Even at full strength our team was ordinary in attack, yet we persevered week after week.

If Seibold could make a noticeable difference to our defence in a matter of weeks, how come not a single coach could make changes to our attack? It’s rubbish that we had to stick with the same system because it was learnt in the preseason.

The simple fix to our attack is getting Ponga into first receiver more. A fair chunk of our limited attacking success came when he did this rather than sweeping around on very predictable block plays where he was herded towards the sideline

Not sure we need a specialist coach to implement that

I’d rather we don’t hire more coaches just for the sake of it. I’ll back the current coaching staff to get it right if they think they’ve got the right people already.

But what about the other 80m of field where we rely solely on one out hit ups? It’s anything but a simple fix.

I’m hoping that 2022 doesn’t have us needing repeat sets or penalties to piggyback us into half decent field position, just for Pearce to lob a kick.

Close to the most important thing in the game these days is footwork before the line.

We just lost literally our only forward with footwork.

Nothing much in Toohey's news this week

A fluff piece about how bennett wasn't as bad as fans make him out to be..... Lol

Danny Buderus *might* -take a more hands on role with coaching

We've signed James Fisher Harris's cousin for SG Ball..... Apparently dogs and warriors were also after him

Won't hurt to try him elsewhere but I won't be holding my breath. AOB cites Yeo, Radley and Murray in the article but all of them can threaten a defensive line in their own way which Phoenix hasn't shown yet.

Hopefully it means Zane Camroux gets a run in the halves for reggies.

the lack of reggies for the last two years has hurt us so much

So no real faith in Crossland as a half by sounds of it.

He's basically our plug and play man if we get ourselves in an injury or suspension pickle.

I still think 9 is the number we groom him for.

Surely it has hurt all teams equally
No - has hurt development teams with holes they are trying to fill internally.

teams like the Storm, Panthers, Parra and Rabbits are finished products so haven’t been hurt at all.

Crossland can defend at lock but I wonder what threat he will offer with ball in hand. In attack, he is the opposite of Connor Watson. Good techincially but zero dynamism...

The best teams have a star in 13. We will have a borderline first grader who is really a half. Not much confidence in the club at the moment.
