Yeah, its to play under smith:sarcasm:
RLW - Who would you least like to be coached for 31 compared to last year 32. Very substantial wouldn't you think?

Or its the awesome depth:sarcasm:
A player wouldn't move to a club that has awesome depth and talent unless he was guaranteed FG spot. The chance of sitting in PL is to great.

1) opportunity to play under the best teacher in the game;
2) opportunity to enjoy an awesome lifestyle; and
3) opportunity to play in a young team and have a massive shot at FG.

Face it Mac, these boys haven't moved to Newcastle for the view or the lifestyle...
Smith is not the best teacher in the game.
They will play in a young team only with a massive shot at FG if its in their contract.

To say that they came here because they have a massive shot at FG is just idiotic IMO, with the depth we have and the players coming in its a much smaller shot at FG that if he went to say the Raiders or Souths...

yet Lulia was in the Newcastle Herald saying he moved here as he wanted to be coached by Smith.

I would be interested to know WHO they interviewed to get those statistics too - my money is on either a) most of those players have never played under Smith, b) a proportion of those players have been cut by Smith, or c) a combo of a) and b).

A player wouldn't move to a club that has awesome depth and talent unless he was guarenteed FG spot. The chance of sitting in PL is to great.

B.S.

believe it or not, most good league players have confidence in their ability.

Face it Mac, these boys haven't moved to Newcastle for the view...

face it, you have NFI.

Smith is not the best teacher in the game.

matter of opinion. one thing is for certain, he sure as hell is better than Nathan Brown.

They will play in a young team only with a massive shot at FG if its in their contract.

hardly going to play here without a contract, are they sparky?

To say that they came here because they have a massive shot at FG is just idiotic IMO,

to dismiss that is just plain arrogant and stupid. Smith has shown consistently that he isn't afraid to use alot of players over a year. besides buderus and simpson we don't have established stars. every player in the top 25, and some, will be given the opportunity to impress in training, and likely first grade.

which goes back to one of my original points - lifestyle. since you put so much weight in the RLW survey, were we one of the teams players would least like to play for...? who was #1?

and the point remains - we have depth - but not breadth. there aren't stars all over the squad clogging the pipes - there are only really 2 (3 when Cross gets here perhaps, and arguably mullo but he has been crap lately) immovable objects. the rest of the spots are wide open - and not many teams can say that.

put that in your crack pipe.

Yes, the RLW is against Smith just like everybody else i suppose:?

Confidence in their ability and sitting in PL is a different story. He left the dragons because he was behind Cooper and Rangi. If he was that confident he would have stayed there.
IMO, he is on huge dollars.

Wow, what a statement.

Correct, but he isn't God of the coaching world like some people around here (yourself included) would have me believe.;-)

Wow, did you take all day for that? Infact, in your massive wank i think you totally mis-read what i said. I said hes hardly going to have a massive shot at FG unless its in his contract. Meaning he doesn't have a massive shot at FG unless its written in his contract to do so. Much like Gaz at 5/8 ;-)

No its not arrogant and stupid. If you were a back, would you head to Melbourne now? Ohh... but they have confidence in their ability right:sarcasm: . Every player will have an opportunity, but Mac, only 17 can get picked each week. That rules out having a 'massive' opportunity doesn't it?
Smith doesn't need to use alot of players over the year. He needs to pick the best 17 over the year. Why would you come to Newcastle as a junior when we have many other juniors waiting to be picked? He isn't an established First grader, hes pretty much the same as the boys sitting in PL at the moment. Only we have Wes and Mad Pup, coming next year making it even harder for him to get FG. He hardly has a massive opportunity to make FG. In fact, id go as far to say as this is a dud signing.

Yeah, it was Canberra which proves that lifestyle isn't one. The life style at Canberra is alot like the lifestyle at Newcastle. ;-)

Yeah and next year we will still have a sh*t load of depth but no breadth. If you think we only have 2-3 immovable objects in the team, then you really need to watch the knights more. Simmo, Bedsey Kiddley, Mullen, Patterson... you would even throw in McManus into that group. Wez when he comes, Mad Dog....

didn't digest what I said, did you?

he was behind Cooper, an Oz rep, Rangi, who looks a star, and possibly even Gasnier, one of the best centres ever.
yeah, he came cause we threw 350k at him.....

Correct, but he isn't God of the coaching world like some people around here (yourself included) would have me believe.

dont believe in Gods. and regardless the back page of the Herald today proves Smithy certainly isn't one.

in your massive wank

jealousy is a curse.

I said hes hardly going to have a massive shot at FG unless its in his contract. Meaning he doesn't have a massive shot at FG unless its written in his contract to do so. Much like Gaz at 5/8

Ohh... but they have confidence in their ability right .

its hard to take you seriously when you take things to the absurd.

Every player will have an opportunity, but Mac, only 17 can get picked each week. That rules out having a 'massive' opportunity doesn't it?

again with the stupid statements. how many players have we used in FG this year?

have the ones that have debuted and played really well (ie McManus) just vanished?

Smith doesn't need to use alot of players over the year. He needs to pick the best 17 over the year.

you should know all about injuries.

and form.

and that if we take 25 rounds or whatnot to arrive at the best 17, that is not neccessarily a bad thing - and a hell of alot of players are going to get the chance to put their hand up.

Why would you come to Newcastle as a junior when we have many other juniors waiting to be picked?

its all about the money.... apparently....

He isn't an established First grader, hes pretty much the same as the boys sitting in PL at the moment.

coach obviously disagrees. I know who would have a better idea. (hint: its not you)

Only we have Wes and Mad Pup, coming next year making it even harder for him to get FG.

you would take them over Cooper, Chase and Gasnier?
He hardly has a massive opportunity to make FG. In fact, id go as far to say as this is a dud signing.

matter of conjecture at present. He has looked decent in limited opportunities. I think he will end up on the bench for us and play in the back row and cover centre.

Yeah, it was Canberra which proves that lifestyle isn't one. The life style at Canberra is alot like the lifestyle at Newcastle.

I know you are joking, but still.

Yeah and next year we will still have a sh*t load of depth but no breadth.

my point.

If you think we only have 2-3 immovable objects in the team, then you really need to watch the knights more.

hahaha. I have missed one game this year - vs. the Broncos. my wife wouldn't let me watch the tape.

Simmo, Bedsey Kiddley, Mullen, Patterson... you would even throw in McManus into that group. Wez when he comes, Mad Dog....

Pato has played how many games? sure, he looks like a gun, but Tim Smith did in 2005 too, as one of countless examples. Wes will be recovering from a bad knee injury. McManus, see Pato. Kids you are right, definately, and I admit overlooking him. Mullo is in shocking form at present, but will see it through. Doogs is ageing fast...

Wow, summed up your argument. Rubbish.

yet still better than yours, what does that say?

Your both right and wrong, if that makes sense, both of you have good points. I think Lulia was a signing more for the 2009 season anyway for a replacement to Mad Dog.

1. Kids
2. Mcmanus
3. Naqiuama
4. Mad Pup
5. Mad Dog

That will be 08.

1. Gidley
2. Mcmanus
3. Naiquama
4. Lulia
5. Mad Pup

Or maybe he will slip onto the bench as utility in 09 and use Uate/Vuna I don't know
But I reckon that's what might happen. My point is I think Smith was thinking past 08 when he signed Lulia and a few of the other signings like Wicks.

As for lifestyle in Newcastle, it has it's attractions but I think the major setback is you can't escape from the game too often. The fans are so passionate it must suck sometimes.

He sounds promising, try on debut and a 50-meter try the following week.

Don't be too concerned about him jumping right into the FG team and taking the place of local juniors behind him. It took Sargent ages of hard work to break into the FG side, not to mention he had to consistently perform for weeks in PL. Lulia will have to show that same dedication before Smith will shove him onto the big stage.

I think sargent missed the 1st chunk of the season because of an infection
