Knights vs. Tigers

Oh yes, talent wise he is middle of the pack at best...

The thing i find endearing about him is that he seems to care more than anyone else on the field, even in a badly beaten side.

He will never make a rep team, but he will be a great clubman for us. (he reminds me of Kidley before K decided he was the new messiah)

So he's essentially a less talented Kurt Gidley?

Cool.

Only saw the 2nd half but we never seem to have support players when someone makes a half break or has the chance of an offload. Need to work on that.

Was pretty disappointing to see Levi make plenty of half breaks and nobody back him up.

Re Randell, I don't see a future at Newcastle for him beyond this season. By Round 26, Levi will be conditioned to play the full 80 and we get far more versatility out of Bhana playing in the backrow/lock. Randell just offers nothing, I felt our pace overall drop by a fair bit when Levi when he came onto the field. At best he'll be a quality backup in NSW Cup.

Good to see brown have a go at some of the senior players at the presser.......praising king for his effort, even though he only trains once a week, being better than some guys who train full time

IMO the only one that's really not trying is Tariq, despite probably being our highest paid player.

We'd lose nothing moving him on and have a lot to gain cap space wise. He's not leading like he should be and he spends most of the year suspended anyway.

The young forwards in the squad are doing a better job on a quarter of his salary.

If it were up to me I'd cut Tariq Sims, Rochow, Mullen, Uate, Snowden, Mamo tomorrow, would free up probably 30% of our cap and we'd be no worse off.

Yes (id put him on par with Matt Hilder)

Now, as i said, he will never make a rep team because they have the chance to be picky. We however do not have the luxury of being overrun with talent.

Randell seems to have a better work ethic than most of his teammates. While he will never carry the team, we have 17 spots to fill and a range of rolls to create a cohesive team.

I dont know why he is meant to be Jesus-Mk2, he is solid and good at what he is asked to do...

(Basically, he hasnt played himself OUT of a spot, so he shouldnt he moved until there is a genuinely better option)

Randell shows some organisation skills out there. If players we'd expect to show the same actually did so we'd be in a much better position.

This.

We'd be able to buy a solid half, a decent centre and a hard-headed old forward like luke lewis.

I'm pretty confident Brown is trying to do this very thing. Mind you, the players listed are giving him plenty of ammunition and making his decisions about their future at the club easy ones.

Aku hasn't done anything wrong this year.

Tariq looks like a bloke who has had his bluff called by the club IMO. His form is really average at best. The beauty of Browny's approach is he has basically opened the door to young players of ability who want a go at first grade. That is a very smart move. I believe most young players leave clubs like ours cos they get frustrated that out of form and higher paid players keep their spots and there is no clear pathway for the younger fellas to get a go. Brown has removed that. It is our best chance at keeping them IMO. The club now needs to make sure he can compete in the market.

I can see why Brown has been reluctant to blood some kids. the Safitis have shown they are a very special pair of talents. No matter what they need to be the priority and the club needs to be ready in advance to ward off any poachers in 2-3 yrs. They will cost plenty when their next deals are due if their improvement is as big as we expect.

500K.

Unless he takes a 300K pay cut, he's gone. Then Brown has to teach him how to tackle. Never going to happen.

He's done nothing to give Brown any reason to keep him.
