Alvaro takes the run from the scrum win. Matterson links up with French on the second and he takes it to the line.

Good dart from ZDC. Matterson tries to capitalise on the momentum as he runs to the line and makes a few tackles breaks but can't link up with any support. Henry does better on the next tackle as he puts Cody Nelson through the line. Nelson is taken before the line and tries to flick offlaod to his right but it is intercepted and a try is half blown.

Wenty then concede an early penalty in defence due to offside defenders. Newtown makes a dangerous raid down our left edge from the new set but a good read by Goodall bats teh ball down - hang on, ref has pinged the Jets here so we will have a scrum for the home team.

Big break from Lasalo! Paulo the technician there. Lasalo offloads to Matterson who is pulled down by the chasers. Wenty then find a penalty down their right edge for a repeat set in the red zone.

Can't crack the visitors though, Matterson cops a borderline lifting tackle for no penalty but recovers two tackle later to thread the ball in goals along the ground. Good kick and the chase is just too slow and it beats Goodall to the dead ball line.

Willing defence in the following set sees the Jets driven into touch down their left edge again! Some decent footy from the boys in black and white so far.

Kassis earns a penalty as the defenders get the arms all around his neck. Wenty will resume play near the red zone.

ZDC turns Lasalo back on the insde and it looks half promising but Lasalo's offload finds the carpet before it is cleaned up by Matterson.

Play is fractured after a sloppy pass from Zach at the base of the ruck and Wenty eventually complete their set with a bomb to the left but it is well taken by the Jets before Wenty are pinged for stripping the ball. Think that was Goodall penalised there.

Big play from Kassis! Gets the charge down clean up and then offloads to Matterson who makes a 20m gain. Wenty are desparetly unlucky not to get a penalty as they lay all over Matterson while scrambling backwards and from that play the ball an errant pass from Seffa is intercepted after getting batted up by a defender.

Newtown also blow the opportunity from a quick turnover as they produce a forwards pass.

Oh dear, likewise Wenty do the same again as Kassis grasses a poor offload from Folau.

Can't keep up with all these turnovers!

Joseph Paulo is absolutely hopeless even at this level. Just threw the ball away on the first tackle.

Paulo is penalised from the scrum win as he is deemed to have made a second effort.

Blatant shepherd/obstruction is missed...quality reffing in all grades.

Wenty hold out and French continues his tidy work at the back as he cleans up a grubber in goals and gets back out to the 10m line.

Pakutoa makes a solid charge and Henry looks to kick early as he hammers it down the field but it has too much power and rolls dead for the 7 tackle restart.

Too soft. French is involved in a tackle up the middle and is fractionally out of place as the Jets dart from dummy half. Rest of the ruck defenders miss the runner and French manages to get an ankle tap on Gardner that brings him down 5m short. Cover defence is slow to get back and Gardner gets back up and offloads to his centre who then steps between Folau and Goodall to get over. He might have been short from our angle but the officials are happy and Newtown get first points.

Conversion is missed.

Newtown complete their set after points but their kick is too heavy from the mid field and rolls dead.

Nice work from Kassis and Goodall sees Wenty make some metres down the left. Henry wants to run it down our right on the last. He links up with Paulo who tries to quickly push it on to Crooks as a defender jams on him (Paulo that is) but the ball is behind Crooks and he knocks on.

Gardner produces another linebreak deep in the Newtown set but he tries to kick ahead and is immediately deflects to ZDC who passes to Bureta Faraimo. Unfortunately a few tackles later Seffa coughs the ball up again - not having the greatest game.

Another penalty for the Jets follows.

Good ball there from the Jets #7 as he holds the pass up really well at the line and then throws it behind the runner to Junior Roqico (sp) who crashes over on the inside slant.

Conversion is successful.

Big metres for the Jets this set, most of them coming down our right. Eventually the shift to the other edge comes and Gardner is the man they are looking for again. Embarrassingly he fends off Matterson but the sliding defence is better this time and he is brought down with troubling the line.

The Jets shit the bed on the last and come up with a soft change over after rushing the kick.

Some ball playing at the line nearly catches out right edge out and from the quick play the ball the Newtown #6 rolls in a really shallow grubber 30m out (I mean like 2 or 3m behind the defensive line) gets a great bounce for the regather and then has the support to beat French with a pass. All down our right edge that set.

Conversion is good.

Big lead now as Wenty trail 16-0.

Good tackle from Kamikamica on the kick off chase. Oh my, Seffa bumped off now, he is saved blushes by some decent work by the other defenders in the initial contact.

Newtown have a professional finish to the set as they find touch 10m of our line.

Goodall takes the run from the scrum win. Faraimo is up next down the right with Kamikamica to follow. Ball down down the left to Kassis who then passes to Folau who has a tilt at the defensive line. Kamikamica has a very good second charge this set as he carries defenders over half way giving Henry the time and space to thread in a great kick that gets Gardner pinned on this goal line. From my view the chasers are desperately unlucky to get pinged for a second effort on Gardner, Wenty then concede a second penalty as the ref deems a very early held call and we are once again done for the second effort...

Shut the gates. Our right edge is at sea with Crooks racing up and then back pedaling allowing the Jets to just stroll through the gap inside him. Terrible stuff. The #6 for the Jets ends up make the clean break down our right and he beats French down the sideline to score.

Not much to say there. Yes the reffing is typically poor but that was awful defence from our right edge.

Conversion is waved away off the uprights.

Just LOL. Ref blows another penalty against the Magpies for going on with the tackle, this is despite the ball runner driving forwards with momentum...

And another line breaks results, this tiem down our left. Junior Roqico (sp) botches a try after making a break and Wenty are extraordinarily lucky to hold on with second on the clock as the Jets lose the ball attempting to reach out and score.

We get one play on the clock and Folau does very well to sneak an offload away to Goodall who then flies 50m down field before trying to offload to French but it goes awry. The Jets clean up and have a tilt after the siren sounds but they end up kicking it over the sideline.
