You mean CPI linked, rises with inflation or TV rights

No

BA has said he does not backend contracts

Well he will if he ever feels the need to give the squad a short term boost, like chasing a title before a premiership window closes.

How do you think we got into trouble after '05-'10? Just some vague reference to 'poor management' hey?

Was BA coaching us back then ?

And if no, how is that relevant to now ?

(And yes the first one is rhetorical).

It's relevant to now (or more accurately, it's relevant to the future) because it allows you to stack your squad to take advantage of the aforementioned premiership window.

I'm sure if we found ourselves in such a situation then we would consider bringing in some more talent to get us over the line. That's what premiership winning teams do, so why wouldn't we?

You like to spout crap Pou!!
In reality, one ought only play dangerous cap games with the contracts of the elite players. Everyone else is there to supplement them. You cant really win a title without elite talent, i know you always point to the drags, but they are the exception rather than the rule. The more common form of that team is the current iteration of the Panthers.

For any other level player you offer whar you want to pay, and sign someone else if they dont want to play ball.

A few changes for Wenty with Luke Kelly and Kaysa Pritchard dropping out and Daniel Alvaro and Beau Henry I believe taking their places for the Magpies.

Kickoff is at 7PM.

Dogs to kick off to get the game under way.

Alvaro takes the first run of the game. Lasalo has a solid carry to follow. WEnty drive the ball over halfway before Matterson turns the ball inside to Aloiai who has a good dart.

Wenty complete their set with a shallow kick into the red zone and nail the fullback near his goal line.

Good start to proceedings.

Not many metres available for the Dogs in their first set. Forced to hoof the ball downfield where Quinlan is happy to clean it up.

Wenty roll the ball into the Dog's half before an excellent kick from Ryan Matterson earns a scrum for Wenty as they hammer Phillips into touch! Big play early on.

Some busy work down the left from Aloiai and Goodall sets up space back on the right but the big shift is butchered by Quinlan who throws an awful pass the intended recipient Butler-Fleming and the ball rolls behind him and into touch.

Alvaro back to Wenty eh? Kelly and Pritchard potentially under NRL consideration... Good move, I thought the bench for Monday night was too top heavy with Alv, Wicks, Pauli and Lussick

Mannah may not play yet either...

Thanks Forty, always appreciated.

Teams exchange sets before Matterson is on point to clean up a sloppy kick from the Dogs and pinch 15m.

Wenty complete their set with a towering bomb from Matteron. Dogs want nothing to do with it and Butler-Fleming takes it cleanly. Beau Henry comes flying in on his left and screams for a pass but Fleming misses the call and rolls the ball in behind for himself. The Dogs come up with the ball, again inside their red zone.

Faced with another tough set of rucking it out the Dogs kick a big earlier in their set - but just outside the 40m mark - and find touch 10m off the Wenty goal line. Very good play for the home team.

Pritchard would have to be injured wouldn't he? He's played one in a row.

Wenty on the attack now after an error from the Dogs. Seffa plays at the line to Lasalo before Quinlan is crunched on the sweeping play down the right. Henry looks for a repeat set via a grubber but it catches a couple of deflections in the defensive line and is eventually cleaned up by the Dogs - hint of a knock on though!

And indeed the home team come up with an error a couple to tackles later.

Golden chance for Wenty.

Better continuity this set. We raid down our right earlier in the set before coming back to the right (seems to be the structure today) where Henry earns a drop out.

Nice little ball from Matterson to Aloiai there! Josh pokes his nose through a half gap but is brought down!

Goodall then nearly storms over but is tackled 1m short and the expected right edge shift comes. This time Henry thinks there is space in behind a tackle early and dabs the ball in behind for Butler-Fleming but the Dogs barely get back in time to clean it up. A good chase from the Wenty winger earns a repeat set again though.

Oooh clever play from the Dogs. Spotting an opening in the Wenty formation they kick it shallow and get the ball back! Sucks from a Wenty perspective but that was smart footy.

The Dogs then roll the ball downfield but cough it up late in their set.

Seffa puts Tui Kamikamica through a half gap and the Dogs have to converge in the middle to drag the big Fijian down.

Henry wants the ball down the right on the next play and throws a clean crash ball to Cody Nelson. Looked like a solid run before Nelson tried to force an offload I think and the ball spills out for a turnover.

The Dogs then pick up the first penalty of the game as Paulo is pinged in the ruck.

Second penalty to Dogs now. Early in the set it came.

Dogs coming at us hard now. They venture down our left edge first where Matterson makes a terrific tackle to save a try. The Dogs then look for a barge over but our markers are awake and hold David Minute up.

Rather than a big movement to the opposite edge the Dogs look for a grubber down that edge but Quinlan and Fleming converge to shadow it over the deal ball line for a 7 tackle set.

Nice work between Seffa, Goodall and Faraimo sees Bureta take plenty of pressure of this set as he races from the 25m mark to past half way.

Matterson doubles down on the pressure relief as he finds touch 10m out from the Dog's line.

Oh yeah, some vigor in this game now as both teams clash very physically repeatedly in this Canterbury set. It culminates with the Magpies driving Jacob Loko into touch down our left near halfway.

Alas Wenty squander another chance. Matterson takes play down the left edge midway through the count and looks for Aloiai but the backrower grasses the pill in a rare blemish on his game.

Dogs burst to life after a line break up our middle. Seffa the culprit there after he raced out of the line. Some frenetic cover defence down our left results in the ball going over the sideline. Goodwork from Goodall and Faraimo there! Loko was racing full tilt at the line and they hammered him before backing up to push the Dog's winger into touch after Loko got the desperation offload away.

The teams go back to trading sets as the ball swings from end to end on the back of some big kicks.

Finally a penalty for the Magpies! Faraimo was very close to losing the ball clean but he manages to hold onto while rucking it out and then gets the reward as he is held down.

Booming touch finder sees Wenty on the attack 10m out.

Seffa throws a lazy pass to Moses Manu who does very well to nearly force his way over the line. Good effort!

And unfortunately Wenty come undone again down their right. This time it is Henry who throws a pass at the ankles of Vai Toutai. Vai had no chance there and loses the ball.

Wow more flashy plays from the Dogs. They look for the deep kick from the scrum win. The ball goes in behind our left edge (the edge where both line are set) but Butler-Fleming is on point from the other side of the field and races back to clean it up.

With 2min on the clock neither team looks like scoring but Moses Manu thinks differently. He steams through the middle. Seffa redeems himself there as he threw the money ball to Manu. The big backrower flies into the back field and takes on the fullback before finding a perfect offload to Quinlan who scores under the posts!

Henry adds the extras.

There is time barely for the kickoff but Wenty are happy to field the ball and take it dead to close out the first half.

Half Time

Wenty 6 lead Canterbury 0

Second half about to kick off.

Wenty booting the ball to the Dogs in this half.

Decent first set for the home team but they undo any good work from it as their fullback is well offside on the kick chase for the bomb.

Quinlan defuses the kick in spite of it and then the Magpies get the penalty.

Aloiai steams into the line for the first hit up and backs up two tackles later! Great engine from the young man.

The visitors turn the ball over though, this time the mistake comes from Goodall who just grasses a pass.
