I like Robson, but if Keating plays just above average, and his defence is not a complete liability, I can see him replacing Robson by Round 10. If Mortimer and Hayne provide enough of the try assists and strategic kicking, Robson might play most of the season with Keating as the impact player.

Keating is easily the more talkented player of the two, though I have lots of respect for Robson.

PS - YY - lets win a GF before comparing the 2010 Eels to the 1983 Eels....

I am not comparing the Eels directly.

What I am saying is the 80s eels had a halfback who had vision and who could technically execute.

So the question is, is that what we are missing?

I have never suggested the KK is the man either.

However, in my other posts, I think we have alot of money from 1-5 + one who would be in Wenty.

One short in the prop dept after Caylo retires and our halves are newbies. Should we redistribute the money.

My reply was in context to Eelementary's post debating whether we required a halfback with stronger organizational skills.

I pointed out that both backlines were similar in potency.

But is that extra bit of vision (being 2 plays ahead) and being technically able to execute (short grubbers, maintain pressure), throwing it to the right person the difference between almost good enough to being good enough to wear a premiership ring?

Look, I think Hayne is better than Taylor, Tahu better than Ella or on par with the Crow, Grothe almost can cancel each other out (although I think Senior is just a tad better, less brain explosions), Price and Hindy negate each other and what is left? Our halves?

Lastly, I don't think we would win a premiership with these players DaVID Penna or Ben Kusto or Stu Galbraith

Well, I don`t know - I think the eighties backline pretty much sh*ts all over our current one. In particular, I think Mick Cronin was quite possibly the best centre to ever lace on a boot. He and Bob Fulton would be my pick for best centres in the history of the game. So obviously I disagree with Tahu being his equal. Tahu isn`t in the same ball-park.
Eric Grothe couldnt hold a candle to his dad. Burt might edge out Hunt or Atkins, Reddy might edge out Hunt (but not Atkins). Tahu would make the side as a winger (ie: he would replace Hunt or Atkins - or Delroy). Mortimer would not come near to making that side and neither would Robson or Kris Keating, under normal circumstances. Hayne would safely replace Paul Taylor. They were an incredible side, that eighties side. One of the best ever club sides. So why are you comparing Robson to Sterling?
And, just for the record - that side was so good that they would still have won grand finals (maybe not as many) without Sterling. A plain old solid link man like Kevin Hastings would have done; or................or even Jeff Robson. There was so much skill in that side that they could still have made grand finals with Jef Robson as half. And one thing is for sure - he would not have let them down.

And the answer is: no, not really.

Hayne has Taylor covered, Price and Hindy equal in my book as well, but T has to prove his longevity in the centers to be compared to the crow and Ella (how many rep games in the centers has he played?) Meninga, Rogers, and Cronin are the best modern day threequarters to play the game for mine.
Eric snr is not just a tad better than jnr, he was the best winger of all time
