I have to, surprisingly, agree with you here. Nene has been good this year - consistent with his carries, hard pushed in defense (but who hasnt on that right edge!) but given opportunities, he's shown his class.
Only bad thing he did today was try to push the offload after a glorious catch.
Nene is a beast!! Full stop and move on!

So, you think Mann will be our long term fullback?

I don't.

I see Mann as a utility who's best position is 5/8.

I don't know how Mary intends to use him but he has made it clear we are onto securing him, and as you say, he is versatile. We currently don't have a fullback for 2018, and Mann has enough speed and ball playing abilities to make a particularly good one in my opinion. Back up 5/8 absolutely.

Funny how Aitken cops it on here for defensive reads.

Anyone notice Nene coming off his wing and not trusting his centre today?
It's a bad habit.

Mann isn't there physically. Just a good clubman who is a bits n pieces player at times.
Agree re Mann don't see what all the fuss is!
Sign Johnston for Nightingale already and maybe look at Fergurson for right centre next year

Mann is not a fullback!

Mate the kid has been belted from pillar to post with his positional changes . He doesn't know if he is Arthur or Mather. Do the same to the others in the back line and lets see how they go .....

I agree, he needs a decent shot at one position. He would't be commanding huge dollars yet. Every premiership team in recent history has a player like him. A smart retention if true.

Mann is suffering from far too many changes
Left, right, centre, wing, 5/8, fullback
All his best football has been on the left hand side but we keep dicking him around and even today more of the same. I think today's game by him was poor but he is a victim of circumstances to some degree
You say Nene is a beast well the reality is IMO he is a dud on the RHS
A few runs from dummy half is how he appears to be doing something but he is a winger and has scored I think 4 tries and he is yet to pin his ears back and outrun the opposition which is simply not good enough
People fall in love with a few bullocking runs but so many other wingers do it multiple times in multiple games and Nene doesn't do it. He wouldn't rate in the top 12 wingers going round.
He needs to go the left and if he doesn't really fire and start scoring he needs a stint in reggies to get the message.

At the end of this discussion my conclusion is Kurt Mann is an OK footballer.

He was a very good finisher last year and going reasonably well at 5/8 or centre this year. He has a good step and reasonable but not outstanding speed. Normally defends well but today had his hands full with Josh Morris. In fairness was never 'beaten' by Josh but needed a lot of assistance at times and a couple of goes to pull him down.

OT continues to be quite critical of Nene. I rate him a reasonable standard winger in 1st grade who is playing on his less preferred side of the field. Today he did some strong runs in traffic and made one good break through the centre of the park for 40 metres odd before reaching the fullback. His jump for possession off a Gareth kick was good and almost got that final pass away accurately. His defence suffers from a lack of trust ( with fair reason at times) when our centre is struggling to reach his opposite on a sweep play. That's what happened again today for the fumble by Brett Morris in the 1st half no try.

Actually OT's assessment of Nene noted above would better describe another player in our team. That player did pin his ears back but got rounded up quick smart.

I do not want anyone to think that I am anti Mann. I was calling for Mary to pick him in the halves with Widdop at the beginning of the season and only a few weeks ago. With Hunt and Widdop signed as our long term halves and the wraps on Field, I can't see Mann securing a full time position in our halves. I am pinning my hopes that Field or Dufty can become our long term fullback. I don't like Mann in the centres. He does his job on the wing, but there are others I would take over Mann.

Yes he does make a good back up utility.

Now if we were to sign a centre for next year. Fergo would be a good choice. I am still keen to see the likes of Herbert, Garrick, Lomax and Marsters, who anyone of them could be ready for first grade by next year and could all play centre.

Wasn't Mann the top try scorer for us last playing on the wing.
Correct me if I am wrong but I'm to lazy to look at the Saints website
