Here's an interesting angle to the whole Catalan independence shift I stumbled on:
Barcelona to sport Catalan flag

09/10/2012

Next season FC Barcelona will wear the colours of the Catalan flag, known as 'Senyera'. For the first time in the club’s history the players will bear the Catalan symbol, on the team’s second kit.

Looks nice.

I always wondered why they never used the Catalan colours as their home or away colours. Nice to see them trying it rather than that fluorescent crap they've been wearing in recent years....

Yeah I'm sick of the teams that go for a 'highlighter pen' away jersey. Barca, Juve, Celtic, Chelsea, Melb Victory - they're all pretty bad.

Nothing wrong with inverting your colours (e.g. PSG) or going with a predominantly white or black kit like Milan/Man U/Liverpool/Madrid have done.

That is seriously awesome news. I bought the current away Jersey (yellow and orange) when I went to Barca 2 months ago, but this one is way better.

Atletico lost to Valencia last night, leaving Barca as the only undefeated team left.

Also Madrid's up to 3rd after Malaga's upset loss to Rayo.

That was still an impressive run though, 9 matches. Atletico fans shouldn't lose hope though because they could still finish in the top 2, would be great to see...

I think the top 3 will be Barca and the Madrids but I'm not sure in which order.

4th will be interesting though. Valencia had a bad start and Malaga's depth is starting to be tested with their European commitments.

Might be ripe for a team like Sevilla or Betis to get 4th if they can maintain consistency.

I don't know. There's a lot of teams that should drop down into the 'zone' over the course of the next 30 weeks because they're worse than Espanyol like Granada and Rayo.

Although Espanyol going down wouldn't be as big a story as Villarreal who played UCL and got relegated in the same season. Although if Athletic go down, then it would be an even bigger story than Villarreal.

Athletic Bilbao??? No chance. I know they've had a slow start but they have far too much quality. They'll finish in the top half...

Well they're only a point out of it now and still have to play Barca and Madrid twice. They spent the first 9 rounds in the relegation zone too.

One thing that may help them is that they won't have to deal with European competition in the 2nd half of the season.

I wonder when Barca's run will end? Not gonna predict it because I got it badly wrong with Bayern's BL start.

That being said, they do have a kind run until hosting Atletico in mid-December.

Celta Vigo: Only Team to Observe Spanish General Strike
Posted By HeathGCF On November 15th, 2012 11:30 AM | News, Primera Liga

Throughout Spain on Wednesday, millions of people participated in strike action, protesting against the current economic and political situation. For the most part though, in the football world it was business as usual.

As the citizens of Spain observed a General Strike, throughout the country business, commerce and services ground to a halt. The situation was somewhat different for football however, with only Celta Vigo players formally backing the strike action and not training.

Rayo Vallecano players also backed the General Strike and had initially intended not to train on Wednesday. Ultimately though, they decided to resume normal training behind closed doors.

Elsewhere, what few Barcelona players weren’t away on international duties, trained voluntarily, whilst at every other La Liga club, training during the day proceeded as normal.

AFE – the Association of Spanish Footballers said that they and their members strongly supported the N-14 General Strike action, but also suggested that the work of professional athletes cannot be compared to other professions. Stating that players training as normal wasn’t intended to be in contradiction of the N-14 strike action, AFE were clear to point out that their members were fully in support of the strike action observed elsewhere.

Taking a leaf out of the French national team's book maybe?

5 goals for RM, and not one came from Ronaldo. Pretty rare that is... Meanwhile Messi netted two and has now opened up a 5 goal gap on Ronaldo. Seems only an injury could stop him running away with it now...
